The FinalGROM 99

Is there any chance to print case for this module? I don't have spare to use it for FinalGROM.

I will do it for myself as i don't have any spares either, so yeah, will put some for sale when i'm done. Design will be similar to my FR99 case, just shorter to fit the new PCB design (cheaper too).

Feel free to check my FS thread in a couple weeks or so.

Cheers!

That was a very good question! I'm opting for a fully assembled FG99 unit with LED & buttons already mounted, so one of c0d3m4st4's cartridge shells will be perfect for me. I really do not want the hassle of lining up and drilling perfect holes, making a slot for the SD card while risking ruining a case or two to get it right. I'm gonna take the easy way out this time! icon_biggrin.gif

Once my FinalGROM arrives I'll attempt to slap together a metal case. **If** it turns out well, would anyone be interested in getting one?

I'll probably cast one out of aluminum, unless that doesn't work out and I resort to welding it.

Is there a list of games that don't work with the FinalGROM somewhere?

There is on the homepage, in section "Troubleshooting", and "Programs with known issues". It's currently empty.

Although I know that the XB2.7 Suite won't work. Not because of issues, but the program's GROM is too large. Besides, I strongly recommend to use individual programs instead of program suites, as the loading times will be much shorter.

I believe there's an XB27 without the "suite" image.. I have a 3 in 1 image too..

I finally uploaded the preliminary documentation for the FinalGROM 99: https://endlos99.github.io/finalgrom99/.

You'll notice that I didn't implement System GROM mode and Cheat mode.

System GROM mode seems impractical for now, as the FinalGROM doesn't initialize fast enough to catch the first GROM address write. One could probably get around this if the system GROMs are still present in the console, but this seemed like missing the point. I decided to postpone this topic for later.

Cheat modes could not be implemented with the current architecture, as the bytes read from the SD card bypass the main program for efficiency. And after-load patching was also not possible, as the load is a sequential, one-shot process. I think the result wouldn't justify the necessary work. My recommendation is to patch images directly and simply use patched images as cheats.

The help text system and the dump I'm going to look at now. I also wondered if I should support MBX games natively, but there are already conversions that use 32K instead, so I probably won't.

where can i order your finalgrom ? thanx

I am excited to get my hands on one of these! I haven't combed this entire thread yet, but are there options for the cartridge shell yet?

Thank you,

Jim

I'm working on an aluminum case that'll be prototyped in a little over 9 days, and as with the previous FlashROM there will most certainly be a few 3D printed cases available for sale sometime soon

if you have a throwaway TI cart you can just cut a hole for the SD card and use that
