Mr. Do!'s Castle Weirdness

Not sure what happened here, if it's the cart or my VCS, but whilst playing Mr. Do!'s Castle the other night, I encountered this rather odd glitch:

 

I had dropped all the key blocks and made my way to the top to grab the flag. After grabbing the flag, I almost immediately hammered a bad guy in his letter form and was instantly transported to the left gutter along the edge of the play field. I was able to move up and down (as if on a ladder), but was unable to re-enter the play field. Once the enemies reverted to their lethal form, I was able to return to the play field, but only viable the third platform. The game proceeded as normal (I did not get credit for the letter), however when the next level generated, the enemies rained down from the top to of the screen to the left of the flag. The glitch repeated itself when I attempted to hammer more letter guys during the same game. I was therefore unable to obtain additional extra lives (I had already obtained one before the glitch).

 

Strange. Anyone seen this before?

I've never encountered that, but I will say that 2600 Mr. Do's Castle is one of my least favorite Parker Bros. games. Hmm, probably because it wasn't really a Parker Bros. game.

 

It doesn't help that even the ColecoVision version or even the arcade version don't appeal much to me either. But at least they are playable. I find the 2600 version to be barely playable & barely recognizable.

 

So I would have never played it long enough to have found any bugs or glitches. Surely some others here have. Sounds to me like a timing issue. The time window probably wasn't programmed correctly for that scenario.
