shear_xear
Hi everyone. I have a 7800 that I did an AV mod to and when I turn the power on it never loads the game the first time. Sometimes the second try does the job, but it is usually the third attempt before it boots up the game. After that everything will load up perfectly. No problems with glitching during gameplay. I replaced the power switch and the voltage regulator attached to the heat sink. I cleaned the cartridge slot and games. Does anyone have any ideas what my next step should be? Thanks for your time! +-^CrossBow^-
When you power it on and you stated it doesn't boot up? What exactly happens? Odd stripes on the screen with a stuck sound? Brief flash with a black screen after? No change of any kind?
shear_xear
Flash to a black screen. Same with 7800 and 2600 carts.
+-^CrossBow^-
Could be the MJE201 going bad... I had that happen on a 7800 I repaired a few years back. Used one of the MJE201 transistors from my parts donor 5200 to fix it...
shear_xear
Okay. I don't have a spare 5200 or 7800. I guess I will have to try Fry's and see if I can find the comparable transistor. Thanks!
+-^CrossBow^-
The other thing to check...is that you said you replaced the power switch? Was that because of this issue or to future proof it and then this happened? My thought is that if you changed out the switch, maybe the solder didn't make good contact and that is why it takes a few presses to get it working. And man...you have NO idea how badly I wished I had a Fry's in my state?! I have to order everything from Digi, or elsewhere. There is a really decent electronics shop here in town where I live, but they are only open M-F from 9am - 5pm. Not real easy to get to them since I work a normal job. shear_xear
I replaced the switch because it was faulty. It powers on immediately (I used to have to press hard as hell to get it to go). I just swapped out the MJE201 from my working 7800, but it still has the same issue... and yes, having a Fry's 15 minutes away is awesome for this sort of thing. I think I will still get a new one just to be sure they both don't have problems. I will also check those solder points, but it had the same issue before. Thanks!
