Parallax Scroll
July 1989. This magazine changed gaming for me, from being a kid that owned an Atari 7800 and Sega Master System, into a hardcore gamer! 4 pages on the Super Famicom!
empsolo
I like how the AV Famicom and Super Famicom were going to share the same mold type. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Flojomojo
Oh lord, the Quartermann. Such a lying tease. Those layouts, oh my eyes! I remember this era, if not this exactly issue. Everything seemed full of amazing potential, but also so very expensive. Too bad Epyx didn't get any familiar software titles for their ill-fated color handheld. Parallax Scroll
Since you guys love Quartermann, here's the next four Gaming Gossip columns, with the most interesting stuff highlighted September/October 1989 November 1989 January 1990 March 1990
Gamemoose
For me it was a combo of this issue, the issues of VG&CE that had a 16 bit console on the cover and Game Player's that moved me to a Genesis. VG&CE's big article on Wing Commander pushed me to PC Gaming. Upgraded my 8088 with a VGA card. Kinda like putting a turbo boost in a Volkswagon Beetle but still, 256 colors!

Cynicaster
Funny, just the other day I was reading through that 16-bit EGM issue. I remember going to the local corner store and just standing there in the store reading through EGM mags because I had no money to buy them. Inevitably the owner would yell out "this isn't a library, buy the magazine or leave." I didn't get at the time why he was such a meanie but I get it now.

Gamemoose
You mean these? Yes indeed! This reminds me that I should revisit my VG&CE collection. It's been a while since I read an issue.

+Black_Tiger
LOL they literally put the Genesis up on a pedestalThat's a classic shot that made the rounds in game mags bitd. So it was likely Sega that did it. I bought a similar pedestal to shoot consoles on.

Flojomojo
That's a classic shot that made the rounds in game mags bitd. So it was likely Sega that did it. You sure about that? It's really badly lit and amateurish looking. I'll keep an eye out for it while scrounging old scans but if you know of another place this same shot (not one like it, but the same image) appears, I'd be grateful. Yes it was en vogue at the time, I remember the Structure clothing store.
Parallax Scroll
That super famicom looks cool. Must of been a prototype. It certainly was a prototype, the first one that is known. There were two other prototypes that were nearly identical to each other, both of which looked much closer to the final Super Fami design. Tanooki
I remember those old pieces, people getting all hyped like the Genesis was the most amazing looking/sounding system to date which really wasn't the case if you stacked the nicer colored and cleaner detailed TG16 HuCards at the time against it, and the audio too TG16 had that as well as it wasn't scratchy/tinny. Genesis did bring home a good feel of arcade goodness, but those earlier days before things changed with better efforts (second generation carts) and Sonic the system was sold on hype and childish 'Nintendon't' advertising. EGM was always to the end (of Sega) a big suck up to that company over Nintendo, and when Sega waned they ran right to Sony to latch onto. Ahh the early days of publication gaming media fanboyism, some things never change other than shoveling less than obvious misinformation and trolling.
