Lythium "All In One" Retro Console - Development Post

So many tubers are just spouting off with their opinions; it doesn't seem like any of them have laid hands on anything or have inside information, they seem like the video equivalent of posting "first!" on a 1990's web forum.

That's because for a growing number of folks, retrogaming has become an image. There isn't really a concern for quality, just the need to associate with it and be visible. That's why you're seeing all these "companies" pop up that are more lifestyle brand than actual developer. Case in point

Another perfect example is Harley Davidson. A lot of people who buy them aren't buying a motorcycle, they're buying the image that goes with the brand. They don't care about the price or quality of what they're buying. A lot of the bikes will be kitted out with new pipes and accessories, and may be lucky to see only 1,000 miles a year. The owners of such bikes don't really care about the ride, it's simply "Hey! Look at me! I'm on a Harley!" That's why you'll find "dealers" that sell nothing but HD apparel. You can find random products slapped with the HD logo, that otherwise have absolutely nothing to do with motorcycling.

I see the same thing happening in the retrogaming community. People spending tons of cash on games they'll never play. Supporting kickstarter projects for redundant items of questionable quality. You can buy Mario shower curtains for crying out loud. It's become "Hey! Look at me! I'm a retrogamer!"

That's why having been there back in the halcyon days of when microchips were first invented is such a huge advantage. We can easily see through this shit while others are duped. So much of the material today is like poser crap. But sshhhh, don't tell that to the nintendo generation.. don't wanna give up an advantage, now, do we?

The DPC+ games run on specialized Melody boards which contain a 70MHz ARM CPU which offloads resources to the coprocessor, and emulating them is no slouch. Kevtris created an FPGA core for Atari and said while the core would run carts natively, ROM support was limited to non-ARM homebrew. Stella (PC/LINUX/MAC x86 builds) supports DPC+, but none of the embedded emulators running on devices like Pi, Android, Ouya, Xbox, Wii, PSP, etc support the ARM coprocessor though they run about everything else.

I just want to point out that with the way it's stated above, it seems as if the ARM support in Stella only works on x86 machines. I want to be clear that the emulation code for the ARM CPU is just straight C code, so it can work anywhere (and has been personally tested by me on PPC systems, for example). It's just that these embedded emulators often don't have the horsepower to run the ARM emulation, not that the code can't be compiled for them. I actively resist all CPU-specific code in Stella, so it will compile everywhere.

Seems to me (and I could be misunderstanding) is that other compilations of Stella have been done for other platforms, But not everyone has taken the time to recompile the latest versions.

IMHO this is the "it's good enough" mentality. Well, I'm telling you it ISN'T good enough. Get with the program.
