Too bad indeed because the coupon expired at 8:00pm *PST*. You could have squeezed it in just under the wire. :(

If I was glued to AA at the time I might have... but we also need time for cat, wife, food, and other such silly stuff :) travel nighbors etc.

Too old am I, too slow, and my timing to miss is impeccable as ever...

It seems many of us missed it. Any other coupons coming up? :)

If I find out about them, I will let people know ASAP. It's nice because eBay foots the bill. I get the full amount, people get a discount, and there are more Atari cartridges in the world!

Just got an Atari 400. With this system, my Ultimate Cartridge boots up, but no menu. The cart works great with my XEGS. Is my early run cart not compatible with 400/800? Print on my PCB seems to indicate that.

two things to do with your 400, make sure you have enough memory, and make sure cartridge port is standard and not using cas signal.

When I do a PRINT FRE(0) in BASIC ... I get something over 13000. I have no idea what the difference is between standard and CAS. This 400 hasn't been modded in anyway.

Wow, that is a very different PCB. It should be the same as a regular model. I will have to pull my unmodded 400 out and do some tests.

One thing I am going to try is install the latest firmware. I have to wait a bit for the USB Blaster to ship to me, though. Apparently the menu is in the firmware, and not handled by boot.rom. Hoping that changes things.

You must have a 48 KB memory expansion to it work. Even when the menu software would work, the loader needs more space and/or the program to be loaded needs more then 16 KB RAM.

Ultimate cart supports the Atari 400. Doesn't give a memory requirement.

Now it might be true in my case... I have an early run version.

technically correct in that you need enough memory to run the selection menu,

so long as you run only 400 compatible ROMS/BINS, it will emulate the cart and will run just fine. For xex loading or anything else not so much unless you have expanded the memory...

There still may be an issue with the cart port needing modification on your 400, basically the same fix as on the 800, a simple, simple fix if needed.

I no longer have a 400 for direct testing... sadly.

Can someone please confirm for me if the Ultimate Cart being discussed in this thread is the same as the "TBA's Ultimate-A8 SD Cartridge" as seen here:

https://thebrewingacademy.com/collections/atari-800-xl-xe-xel-xld/products/atari-800-xl-xe-ultimate-sd-cart

Different production run,but yes, otherwise functionally the same.

That is me. I am it. It is the same cartridge. The Brewing Academy is me.

So I have an Atari 800 XL and I ordered the Ultimate Cart from the link you provided but this cartridge appears to be too small to fit the cartridge slot in the back of my Atari800XL.  Could this be an XE cartridge and they sent me the wrong size?  The slot on my Atari800XL is much bigger. Oh man

If you have an 800XL, the cartridge slot is on top (silver doors).  The back of the 800XL is a Parallel Bus Interface (PBI) and does not accept any normal cartridges.
