Omega-TI
Until I can find time when it gets warmer this spring to refurbish it, I've turned my Atari 5200 into a hidden "Stealth Unit" in the guest room.... HIDDEN FROM VIEW JUST OPEN THE DOOR READY TO PLAY IN ACTION

Gabriel
I like it! I'd like a writing desk like that.
0078265317
Now just cut 2 small round holes in the cabinet fron folding part so the controllers stick out of it and the 5200 stays hidden. Make it look like a custom game machine or cabinet.
bohoki
haa stealth it wouldn't be more hidden if it was in a roll top desk although it makes a sturdy looking table if you get a trackball
Omega-TI
I'm not sure a trackball is in my future, but I'm holding off on any new personal 5200 purchases until after Fest West.
Omega-TI
Oh, BTW - this is me with my first 5200 unit back in 1984! I wish I could get my hands on those joysticks now! I guess this is why I remember the display being so much sharper... Sadly I was young and dumb and cannibalized it to make a monitor for my TI-99/4A

I bet you have the FA18 graphics chip upgrade, right?

I bet you have the FA18 graphics chip upgrade, right? Thanks. The photo above was my original TI system around 1987. My current TI is shown directly below... ... and yes, I do have an F18A it's something that I consider NECESSARY!

Omega-TI
What is the story behind how you got the 5200 Kiosk back in 1984? Allan Back when I was MUCH younger, I worked for a now defunct retail outlet called Montgomery Wards. When they decided to "re-set" the displays for new items/stock they needed to get rid of both the Coleco and Atari display units. I bought them both for $52.00! In fact I still have one of the Coleco sticks that I re-tasked for the TI-99/4A. (pictured below).
BIGHMW
I remember Montgomery Ward. I lived down in L.A. at the time (born in 1966 in Panorama City and raised in Northridge and Sepulveda, CA, until moving to Washington state in 1987) and there were a few of them down there, btw, how convenient that you bought both the Coleco and 5200 kiosks for a mere "$52.00" (get it? 5200 - $52 bucks?) I remember we also had a store down in the San Fernando Valley (the ONLY valley you need to know!!!) and we had a place on Valjean Ave. called G.A.M.E.S. and they were a videogamer's dream place, every system, almost every game, and almost every computer that played them, and also arcade coin-ops and even those portables that Coleco used to come out with (remember Pac-Man and Galaxian among others that Coleco made in 1982-83???), it was a paradise!!! I bought cartridges and accessories every month down there until they sadly closed down in 1984 after the videogame crash.
