phoenixdownita
I've been trying to downsize my collection and started to sell a couple of my systems. I am going the Craigslist route so postage and eBay/paypal fees are avoided as well as no in transit damage by courier/mail service. I found the hard way that there do not seem to be many interested parties ... to put it midly! Maybe my bundles are a little on the expensive side but usually CL is merciless in that regard and low-ball offers should flock in that case, instead nothing .... and it's been a while. Maybe I am selling exotics nobody cares to buy on CL, who knows, what is your experience? Should I turn to the dark side and let eBay drive it home for me? [i do buy on eBay but I do not sell if I can help it via CL]
+save2600
CL is soooooooo hit or miss (mostly miss) that I rarely ever bother to look at listings anymore. Sellers are just as flaky as buyers. Can't tell you how many times I've offered to purchase game/system lots from people around here that stop communicating in the middle of a deal. Or bother responding to the first inquiry asking if they still have whatever it is they advertised. Just very, very strange out there today. Hate to say it, but eBay or bust these days.
phoenixdownita
I wish I reached the point to have interested parties, I've been able in the past to sell other categories of goods, but "vintage console" seem running almost cold. I managed to sell one after a long time recently so I thought to start unloading the rest but it's been a desert since.

fiddlepaddle
Last couple of years I've not had much response from CL...don't know why except everybody I talk to now says they don't like CL anymore for hardly anything...so many low lifes it seems. I get a much better response taking a box of stuff around to a few vintage game stores and see what they want. Price isn't top dollar since they need to resell it and make a profit, but they're usually fair, plus I can get some interesting trades sometimes. Eltigro
My area Craigslist has had some interesting stuff lately, stuff that I would like to have, but out of my price range. On there right now is a Bonk for NES ($400), a Miracle piano (with box, manual, cords $300), and a super clean looking Ms Pac Man cocktail table arcade ($895). Most of the stuff on there is stuff I don't care about, though. And the ones that look like they might be good deals are on things I already have. But other than that, it seems like a lot of old XBox 360 sports games or PS2 Hunting games or something similar. I don't go to CL more than probably four or five times a year, just because I so rarely find anything I want that I can afford when I do go. I just don't tend to think about it as much anymore because I've had no luck in the past. There are some other sites that I only recently became aware of. One is Letgo. I've seen some interesting stuff on there, but again, it's mostly Cabela's fishing games or WWF Wrestling or used Guitar Hero peripherals... and the worst thing about that site is just how trashy some of it seems. I've seen better photos of things when I accidentally took a picture when my phone hit my leg while walking. And they have no info about the products. I saw one that just showed a closeup of the bottom of a toaster NES saying "Nintendo Original Edition"... and wanting $250... obviously someone who thinks they have a brick of gold because of the Classic Edition craziness. Then there's shopgoodwill.com. I'm amazed at some stuff I see on there, too. Another Miracle piano... currently bid up to just $64, but that'll go up. An Atari 400 at $36. And I think I recently saw a boxed Channel F on there... but the fact that nothing is really tested and is sold "as is" kinda scares me away. (Although I'm considering making a bid on a Playstation that has no bids at $6.49 with a couple hours left...) I also start to get angry when I think about how someone just gave that stuff to them. Grrr... Someone just give me a Miracle piano! But anyway, I don't know what you're selling or what your location is, but have you tried the marketplace here? It's not ebay, and there may be someone here looking for what you've got.
thadsilverfox
CL is notorious for low ball resellers but lately high prices on items tend to scare even those people away from making an offer anymore. Just browsing through my local listing on gaming items even scares me away because everyone thinks their items are gold. I don't even bother making offers anymore for that reason plus you have no buyer protection if the item(s) doesn't work. 0078265317
Just saw the add for this. You can try this. It is locally so no shipping. https://offerup.com/
krslam
Craigslist requires patience and a willingness to put up with flakes, but I've been able to use it successfully. I sell stuff for 20-30% less than ebay (low enough to make folk believe they're getting a deal, not so low as to appeal to the resellers) and figure I make up the difference by dodging fees, shipping costs, and bogus return claims. On the other hand, I'm not selling high value items.
thadsilverfox
Another problem with CL is buyers or sellers not showing up at the designated location to make the deal.

R.Cade
Very few people seem to be looking for that stuff anymore, and if they are, apparently not on Craigslist. I feel like I am the only one that still cares. I do have some luck selling semi-modern PC's on there, but nobody ever responds on classic consoles or computers. 0078265317
By the way speaking of the site I mentioned I put in my zip and found a good deal. 1 dollar for all of these. https://offerup.com/item/detail/236986130/
0078265317
And oddly enough if you type in "nes classic" it shows up a bunch. But same 120 dollars as ebay. So its not just ebay.
0078265317
WOW zero dollars for 2 nes classic edition. Must be a typo. https://offerup.com/item/detail/188839994/

+fdr4prez
I've used offerup a few times. I've gotten similar results as from CL - no responses and stopping communication mid-discussion. But offerup seems to be better than letgo Edited February 26, 2017 by fdr4prez
phoenixdownita
And what about the nes classics? How can that be zero?I believe you make him an offer in the end. If you press buy really they seem to just send a message with the amount .... I guess it is just a way to attract offers.

[i do buy on eBay but I do not sell if I can help it via CL] They are different markets. CL is basically local "anything that isn't illegal *wink*wink*", but you'll have problems getting people to commit. eBay* is "sell anything legal wordlwide" has strict rules about what can be sold, and people just throw a fit when they can't sell their collections of games that may contain one rare bootleg version of something in it. Mostly, the danger for eBay* is, don't sell modified consoles. The quality filters are actively looking for piracy keywords to weed out piracy devices. Accidentally list something illegal once, and you will never be allowed to sell anything again. The sellers that get hammered the most however are those in Asia since nobody thinks twice about selling a blank flash cart. *I once worked for eBay in this department, taking down all the reported world-wide pirate devices is something that can be done in about an hour, if anything people don't report pirate devices enough because they're scared they will bring further scrutiny to finding rare things. I am aware of the "commit" issues and that's not my most immediate problem .... my problem for now is that no one even tries to contact .... even to lowball or correct my price. It's funny because in other categories that does happen (lowball or pointers to lower alternatives) ... oh well.
imstarryeyed
Craigslist, at least here in south Texas, is the place of scammers and cheap. The people here many of the times just want free. Beware as a seller for the most basic tactic, buyer agrees to buy your item(s), you go and meet the person some place only to have the buyer lowball you in person. This tactic often works as it is work for the seller to gather up and post and get the items there, only to be reduced at the last second..many sellers are just like.... sigh... sure.. I am just sick of trying to sell this.
