Scooter83
I just picked up a jaguar with 2 games has a red screen issue. They said dim power light and has a red screen. Used to work fine before that. Any thoughts to if it would be a power supply , needing new caps or what else I should look into.
+madman
I've never heard of a Jag needing a recap, red screen is usually associated with poor cartridge contact. Power supply likely not an issue either if the Jag is powering up. There are some recommendations on here regarding cleaning the cart slot that may help out.

You are correct about the Jags not really needing to be recapped. That said, Console5.com does sell cap kits for the Jag and JagCD. But you are correct in that unlike other systems of the era that especially had bad surface mount caps, the Jag actually used primarily Nichicon radial caps in it. Amazing to think the quality component that Atari put into the Jag. If only that same care had gone into the game development back then. adriano gt
And when that happens in an emulator, what's the problem?

You can use an N64 cleaning kit with a few minor modifications. For the cartridge slot part cut one of the extra N64 slot cleaners to fit in the small jaguar part. Any time i've got the red screen, i just clean everything and it works fine. If you properly clean your jag and games and keep a cart in the slot at all times, you won't have issues very often. The Jaguar is sensitive to dust like an m-16 rifle is sensitive to sand or mud. They don't get along.
+madman
And when that happens in an emulator, what's the problem? Dirty file system. Actually it should be the same thing, the Jag is reading garbage. I only have experience w/Virtual Jag and if you pass it nothing or a bad ROM, red screen.
