Less than a week to go before opening day! Here's a preview of the teams:
What is there to say about the best team in the league? They have already started building a dynasty in the league's short existence. With a 21-7 overall record in the regular season, they have what they need to fly high again this season and capture their fourth Action Network Championship. Getting their third league championship might not be so easy. The Battle Network continues to remain tough, and the Beamriders were close to being dethroned by the Armada in last year's championship series.
This young team had a successful first season last year with big bats and high speed base running. They tied the record for most runs in a single game last season scoring six runs in two different games. All of last year's losses were only by a run. This year they are focusing on having a big offense and an even scarier defense.
They had another mediocre season last year, with a good start and an inconsistent finish. They need to improve their offense and tighten up their defense.
After falling short of the Action Network Championship in 2015, their offense in 2016 had no bite, only scoring 5 runs all season and were shut out in all of their six losses. Their pitching and defense were good at keeping games close, so if their offense can improve, they can be dangerous.
This team needs a lot of work after having three losing seasons, and only one win last year. Like the Snakes, they can keep games close, but really need to stay focused to improve their offense and to minimize errors.
They emerged as champions of the highly competitive Battle Network with a surprising six-game win streak in the middle of last season. During that win streak, they had three shutouts and only gave up three runs. They were two runs short of being league champions in the closest IBL league championship series ever. As long as their pitching and defense stays at the level it was last year, they should easily repeat as champions.
They had a good start last year, but hit a four-game losing skid mid-season to kill their hopes of being back-to-back network champions. Their tough defense might not be enough anymore to get them back to championship form. They need to improve their offense to compete with the rest of the teams.
The other new team in the league struggled to get it going, but then their offense caught fire with a five-game win streak while their defense held tough to give them a respectable first season. If their young hitters can stay hot, they can hurt the veteran teams.
They were edged out of the network championship last season, however they are a team on the rise. They need to be more consistent both on offense and defense if they want to make it to the championship series.
They have the players and good potential, but they need to improve their pitching, tighten up their defense and play consistently to avoid another losing season.
Each of the past three seasons, the Battle Network has ended with only a two game difference between first place and last place. It looks to be just as competitive this year!
Each of the past league championship series has gone all three games. No two-game sweeps yet!
