Fast RMX Impressions/Shinen News

Futuristic racers has always been a favorite genre of mine. I think it stems back to my high school years when i was "experimenting" and used to lock myself in my room, turn off the lights, crank the stereo, and play the likes of the F Zero, Extreme G, and Wipeout series. The blazing psychedelic landscapes and thumping techno soundtracks always sucked me in in a way no other gaming experience had yet.

What do you think of Fast RMX, and how does it stack up gameplay wise to some of these classic series? I have the original game downloaded on my Wii (which was good, but still had some room for improvement,) but held off on the Wii U version as I was waiting for a physical release. Trying to support physical media releases for high quality titles like this. I tweeted Shinen to inquire about a physical release and will update here if I hear anything. Also rumors are swirling that they may be tapped by Nintendo to develop the next F Zero, which would be pretty epic. Have been sad to see that series on ice since the GameCube.

Please share and thoughts or info on Fast RMX and Shinen here.

This is pretty cool:

Shinen has their game soundtracks up on their website for a "pay what you want" price.

Will have to download the Wii U version of the fast soundtrack soon. Have quite a few video game soundtracks in my itunes now that I think of it...

I can't speak for the Switch version, but I have the Wii U one and based on what I have seen they seem pretty similar. Not a massive fan of the Wii U one myself. It's fast and it looks good, but it seems to be heavy on the style over substance (typical of Shin'en games). The racing is far less nuanced than F-Zero and I'm not a big fan of having to constantly pick up orbs on the tracks. Also, the way certain obstacles are implemented don't fit this type of game and takes the focus off of the racing (for instance, there's a track where this pillars fly down from the sky out of nowhere and slam into the tracks.. Yeah, F-Zero has obstacles, but nothing you can't see from a distance; the focus is always on the racing). It's neat, but it's no replacement for F-Zero.. Not even close.

If anything, buying Fast Racing on the Wii U/Switch has gotten me interested in checking out the original Wii game. It seems like that one attempts to replicate Wipeout instead of F-Zero, which will make for a totally different feeling game than the Wii U/Switch renditions.

As far as the Shin'en/F-Zero rumor, that has been going around for a long time now. If it does happen, I hope they relegate the gimmicks to their own franchise and keep F-Zero lean like it is supposed to be.

This is my favorite Switch game so far. I've got probably three times the amount of play time compared to the others. I think it pushes the system the harest too. The fan pushes out a decent amount of heat during races. It's amazing to me that a handful of guys can make something of this caliber. I hope the rumors are true about them doing the next FZero game.

Being someone who is impatient, and makes impulse purchases when I drink, I picked this up yesterday.

It's bad ass! Feels a little clunky at first but once you get used to the controls you can really fly! Great selection of tracks and ships. Heavily inspired by F Zero X, among other titles.

Nintendo would have a huge score if they got these guys to develop a new F Zero title.

They used to bug me when I just wanted to race but strangely I miss having weapons in this game.

Still...They did it right, awesome game. I see myself sinking more time into this than Bomberman or Zelda in the coming weeks.

Can anyone recommend a good vehicle to use after the Cebra Genetics?

I like this game a lot but the difficulty ramps up a little steeper than I would like... Have mostly finished the sub-sonic class but with lot of third place overalls. Still using the Cebra Genetics vehicle because it seems to be the most well balanced all around, but definitely feel like I could do better with an upgrade. Any thoughts?

This game gets my blood pumping and definitely gets me to the edge of my seat! Love it!

I went from that ship to Mueller PLS. It sounds like you are like me and prefer a lighter ship. This one doesn't feel too heavy but adds a nice boost of top speed.
