Hi All

I have a sticky key on my 800xe

if i press the Key it stays down, if i lever it up it seems like there is a spring ??

? do the caps come off or do i have to do major surgery.

I have never looked at the keyboard before.

Any help, hints Please (Polite ones)

Thanks Ray

you can prise the cap off using a very small flat-edged screwdriver.

once removed, you'll see a black circular support surrounded by a white square base.

gently prod the centre of the black support . does it return back up on it's own?

if yes, then there's some cr*p trapped somewhere between the keycap and the support,

if no, then there's some cr*p underneath the support - or the spring has failed

If it's an 800XE, there are probably no springs under the keys: just rubber domes. There may be dirt in there, or perhaps the rubber disintegrated. Ideally you'd want to dismantle the whole thing and clean it, but watch out for rubber cups falling out when taking off the backplate.

Normally its just gunk on the wall of the tunnel that the key sits in, make sure that's cleaned with a cotton bud as well as the key itself before major surgery.....It normally is as simple as that...

A look at what's under the keys of most PC keyboards would turn your stomach :)

Thanks it looks like major Surgery.

I will dismantle the Keyboard.

Thanks again Ray

it really shouldn't be major surgery if it's one key

Hi All

The black plunger is split and when i put the button in it spreads and jams,

The spring is good.

Does anybody in Australia have a spare Black plunger for sale Please.

Thanks Ray

Before you dismantle and replace plunger..... try a bit of superglue on tip of tooth pick applied to the top and inside of crack... press together with finger tips until set... and with same tooth pick apply a plastic safe lubricant replace key and if still sticky then replace plunger..

depends on the glue.... I had a hobby glue that worked I pushed just enough to bind the crack without overdoing it... made sure it was clean and smooth...dried it for a day or two and was super careful to make sure the key cap fit in without re-splitting - my buddy used it for at least 8 years or so years without a problem... before he finally got rid of it....
