Indus GT drive power supply specs

I just picked up an Indus GT disk drive for Atari computers (along with 2 800XLs). The power supply that came with the Indus drive is an Atari power supply, and appears to connect just fine, although I haven't powered up the drive yet - I want to confirm that it' safe for the drive.

 

The power supply (Atari brand) is listed at:

 

INPUT: 120VAC 60Hz 38VA

OUTPUT: 9.3 VDC AT 1.95A

 

Positive Tip.

 

Is this power supply safe to use with my newly acquired drive? And curious - what Atari product was this originally intended for? Part # is CO18187

 

And are these better/worse or the same compared to original Atari drives? I remember back in the day, they were expensive and rare. Just wondering if it's a good find or not.

Indus GT will function on a 9v dc / 2a psu

although i've always found it functions better with a 12v dc / 2a

Thats the 5200 power supply and should work.. FYI: The GT diag manual states:

The INDUS GT external power transformer should have an output of somewhere between 12.2 and 13.0 volts DC. You can verify this by using any common voltmeter. Note that the output is DC, not AC like the Atari power transformers. It is possible that someone may have accidentally attached one of the AC Atari supplies to the INDUS drive. The result would be a non-operating INDUS disk drive; but there should be no actual damage to the INDUS drive electronics.

First, check the power supply that came with the drive and verify that it is a standard INDUS unit. Next, attach your voltmeter to the output connector of the power supply and plug the power supply into a normal 120 VAC wall socket. Verify that the output of the power transformer is between 12.2 and 13.0 volts DC. If the power supply checks out okay, then unplug it from the wall socket and disconnect the voltmeter.

best to use the latter supply, the drive works much better and if you have all your toys installed ramcharger/cpm... it's easier on the power supply as well.

I remember when the Indus GT was considered the Cadillac of drives. My cousin had one. I've managed to pick up a few over the years. And they do use an AC power supply. I learned that the hard way.

The Atari Brand drives use AC.... the INDUS uses DC !

Oops, sorry about that. I guess my memory isn't as good as I thought. I just remembered it was different than the Atari drives. And I haven't used a real disk drive for a number of years.
