It's funny (and annoying) that people (not talking about you Flojomojo) continue to call video game cartridges apps when in fact they are still just games!  It's not like this is something for a smartphone but I guess that's just the lingo of this younger generation (there I go sounding like an old guy again).  They will continue to call it an app, but the proof is in the title video/arcade GAME.  Sorry pet peeve and rant over.  Back to our regularly scheduled program...

Well in this case, it's a little (very little) joke/pun ... "killer app" is an old term. https://en.wikipedia...ler_application

I've never heard a cartridge called an app. Ever.

A computer game is an example of an end-user program or application software. The games programming department at Mattel Electronics was called the "software applications department". So app is okay but when did application software become "app"?

I've heard cartridges called "tapes," which is the dumbest thing ever.

Tapes...  Yup, I think some people used to think 2600 carts were 8 tracks  LOL

I've not heard about 2600 carts being referred to as 8-tracks, but definitely Channel F carts were mistakenly referred to as such because they really look like them

I think they were designed to look like 8-track tapes and later Astrocade games were designed to look like cassette tapes. 8-track tapes were technically called cartridges. Alot of people called the games cassettes in those days. The Atari cartridges were completely enclosed; how were people to know there wasn't a tape inside.

I've heard "Atari tapes" growing up for Atari 2600 games. It's understandable that those not into things will use the wrong terms and/or substitute terms that they already understand that are only roughly equivalent.

You would end up with Deadly Dogs.

If you change too much then is it really Tron.

Hurry up and vote before the poll closes (sometime before the heat death of the universe).
