mapman1071
Were Indy 500 and Star Raiders sold in stand alone boxes without Controller?
Flojomojo
I don't think they were. I think I know why you're asking.
jhd
I rented Star Raiders, and it came in a much larger than standard box with the Video Touch pad packed-in. I seem to recall separate boxes inside of the main box, but I only had it for a week, and memory fades. I assume that it would be the same situation with Indy 500; the game is unplayable without the driving controller.
+save2600
Funny thing is, Indy 500 was released in a full color gatefold style box too. Was a gatefold ever packed with the driving controller? I'm thinking not. Star Raiders had a regular box, but was packed with its controller inside the larger box as you say. So many variants. Flojomojo
Maybe I had a later print run of star raiders, but I don't remember the inner box. Seems there would be pics here on atari age of that, right? (There aren't)
+save2600
Inner box? Star Raiders does indeed have a regular box release (with comic book), as you'd expect just that it was normally bundled in with the larger box that also included its control pad in *its* own box. Two separate boxes inside of one box. Looks like the AA listing here only shows the one large box and the separate controller box. Atarimania may show differently. I remember Indy 500 had its own box and also a larger box to bundle with the controllers. and that 1983 silver catalog, was that included with the 1986 re-release of Indy 500? Would have been controller-less for sure by then methinks.
