Omega-TI
Okay, installing a WiFi printer SHOULD be easy, I've done it enough times, but this time? Noooooo! I picked up an HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP 477fdn, but as you can see from the instructions and the screen, I cannot access the WiFi settings to set it up on the network. Which makes it unusable... Anyone have a solution?
digdugnate
what the heck, lol. so when you press the network button thingy on the panel, does it come up with network settings or anything you could use to set it? I know your display doesn't have the 'antenna' next to it.... I know with wired ones, you have to go into like the IPV4 settings, set it to 'manual', then configure your IP address, subnet, and default gateway... but im not overly familiar with wireless since our home printer is wired into our router and we discourage wireless printing at my office. Good luck! Edit to add- this Youtube vid seems to show them pressing the button and selecting 'wifi' on the next screen. https://youtu.be/xJIyO_i0HQo?t=426 Edited March 31, 2017 by digdugnate
+arcadeshopper
uh it says to hit that button when you hit it what do you get
+Schmitzi
Maybe WLAN is already off and go to step 3 ? Is your WLAN prepared to accept new MAC-addresses ? Maybe connect it via LAN-cable first, to make a quicker config, and to get access to the WLAN-menu

I'll mess with the IP4 setting after dinner... I'm being called now (and I need a break). I may just have to go buy an ethernet cable tomorrow if I cannot get it working. Sigh.... Omega-TI
477fdn doesn't have wifi. Fnw and fdw have wifi Argh! Well that sux, and explains it! I hate it when manufacturers do that sort of thing. This unit is a step up from the fnw (duplex printing) so I "assumed" it would have WiFi, especially for how much it costs. Now I understand the "w"! After you gave me that tidbit, I managed to locate an unused Ethernet cable in a drawer and installed it via Ethernet and printed the test page. I guess no more printing over the network from my tablet. Thanks for your help! But now I have another issue....

+Lee Stewart
... I guess no more printing over the network from my tablet. Of course you can print over the network if your tablet and printer are connected to the same router, WiFi or wired—it does not matter. ...lee

It wants to register, but cannot.
+Lee Stewart
Actually, you want it set up on your LAN not the Internet. Like @digdugnate said, you probably need to set it to “manual” under the network settings and set up an IP address, subnet mask and default gateway. Your router probably has a list of addresses that cannot be assigned by the DNS DHCP function of your router. Pick one of those. If your router address (default gateway) is 192.168.1.1, then you might be able to pick something like 192.168.1.40 for your printer's IP address. The subnet mask would probably be 255.255.255.0 and, of course, your default gateway is your router's address. ...lee [Edited]
gfreige
Puf all in auto or dhcp. It should Work. Forget about printing directly using AirPrint as your Model has no direct printing support
Omega-TI
Okay, it shows up on the network now... but the window to register has been closed. Oh well. Thanks again guys. I'm not used to having problems with stuff like this.

I went to print and it was ALREADY a selection in my tablet. I'm a happy camper now! BTW - Does anyone going to Fest West want an Epson WF-3640? It works fine, I was just tired of feeding it ink. ** EDIT ** This was a replacement unit for one that went bad so it's about 6 months old. It'll come with the original box, packaging, software CD and manuals. I'll even throw in some inkjet photo and waterslide paper. I'm talking FREE here, so if you will be a Fest West, first PM gets it. Edited April 1, 2017 by --- Ω ---
Omega-TI
One more question... I noticed it seems to print things darker than inkjets, what do you guys do settings-wise or in image adjustments to compensate?
+Schmitzi
yes, there should be a setting for that. Check the printer´s menu in your browser, or on the display here: http://192.168.0.29 PS: and NO proxy
