Bikerbob
Anyone know if Steve Tucker is all good? I have been trying to get ahold of him for weeks now, no response. James
Gunstar
I couldn't say, lately, I bought a MyIDE 2 from him last fall without issue. And a Happy board just before or after that.
Bikerbob
Feb 26 was my last email from him. So he was good up until then James
Gunstar
I hope he's well and it's nothing serious. I'd hate not to have him and Atarimax with the community anymore. Unfortunately none of us are getting any younger...
Bikerbob
Eh... he could be just ignoring me, as his SIO2PC kacked out on me .. I am looking to troubleshoot /repair.. replace.. warranty.. it has a lifetime warranty right??? Maybe its just that.. James
Gunstar
I had an issue several years ago that I thought was a bad 32-in-1 OS, and had no problems sending that back to him to repair, we never got to any price or if it was complimentary "warranty" service as it tested good for him and he sent it back. It turned out to be another issue of course. He didn't even charge to ship it back, but postage was like a buck-fifty. Actually, I just remembered last year I had an issue with his Rambo upgrade board, the GAL chip, which was most likely my fault anyway, and I told him so, looking to buy just a new chip for the board, and he sent me out a new one free of charge! DavidMil
He travels a lot so sometimes it takes several weeks to hear from him. I also am waiting to hear from him. David Milsop
beamer320i
I'm still waiting to hear back from him - I recently bought a 32-in-1 Warp+ OS that had a faulty PLCC flash ROM - Thankfully sorted now thanks to our genius in residence Jon (FJC) but I would have liked to heard back from Steve when I emailed him about the problem...It's a great shame because I have had fantastic service from him in the past, up until now his products and after sales service have been excellent so I hope whatever the problem is on his end gets resolved soon. +orpheuswaking
Never had a problem with Atarimax. I purchased a SIO2PC second hand and it developed a fault. Steve sent me a new plcc chip at no charge even though I wasn't the original purchaser.
TheMontezuma
AtariMax 8mbit are great modules. The only thing they are missing is a "reset" button, so you need to switch off and on the ATARI to see the menu again. However with a small patch of the OS you can force selecting the cartridge "zero" page (the one with the menu) on every ATARI reset.

Steve sent me a new plcc chip at no charge even though I wasn't the original purchaser. AHHHH this is what I think happened to mine.. what was the "fault?" I too thought that replacing the chip would be the solution, as there is very little else on the circuit that could fail, and the soldering looks A1. I have a willem programmer maybe I can even erase and reburn mine. As for old school - I will say this.. the more I learn about APE and EVERYTHING it can do.. the more I realize all I need to really enjoy my 8-bit with almost everything I want to do is an OLD Laptop with a serial port, which you can get just about anywhere for $50 or less.. and an SIO2pc - a 40GB harddrive.. or a usb stick or 2 in the laptop.. and you have all the storage you need. Printer through put .. modem to internet, and APE / APE Loader.. As for software .. I find it funny that around here many people applaud a new game.. etc.. will sign up for a prebuy of this item or that.. but Steve gets knocked for his registration and charging for APE. AspecQT or RespeQT are great programs and I use RespeQT when I want to write to a directory directly on my laptop.. but APE is very complete.. works great, so why should the cost of one meal out be too much for software I use all the time? Or you know, you could just IGNORE it. Perhaps the criticism was already well thought out and the person chose to post it anyways It is not up to YOU to tell people how to post, criticism and negativity go with the territory, you do not have to like it and it is not required that you approve, I think this is what you seem to have trouble understanding. Just worry about your own posts and leave others to worry about theirs. Edited April 5, 2017 by OldSchoolRetroGamer

gargoyle
.....so why should the cost of one meal out be too much for software I use all the time? James It shouldn't and everybody is free to chose their meal... having said that, APE is no longer actively developed or enhanced unlike Aspeqt/Respeqt. It is also proprietary technology and only works with MS Windows, ..speqt however can be used with Windows, Linux, Mac OSX and Android. They can be run on smart phones, Arduinos, and PCs. APE may seem to be more complete because it has modem and graphics printer emulation but free software is also catching up on those features. On the other hand ..speqt have some other options APE lacks. Given all that I personaly see no compelling reason to use APE.
