Sega Master System (SMS), Sega Genesis and Atari 2600 to Intellivision controller adapter

Allows the above controllers to be used on Intellivision 2 or Sears.  Also works with Intellivision 1 if you add db9 ports to it.

SMS and Genesis support 2 button operation, 3 if you count pressing both action buttons at same time to activate (Intv) lower right action button.  Ideally adapter is for use with games that normally use one or two action buttons.  Atari 2600 controller supports 1 button.  Adapter supports 4-way and 8-way controllers.  Adapter does not support 16 directions.  Adapter has built in keypad for Intellivision.

In general the Sega Genesis 6 button controller seems to work best for Intellivision games, outside of using a gated arcade joystick.

Price is $70

You will need to purchase "VEL05US090-US-JA" power adapter from Digikey or Newark.  This is good for US/Canada (NEMA power connector).  Power adapter cord is 59 inches / 150cm long.

$5 shipping in US

$12 shipping to Canada

Comes in Gray (Intv2) or Almond (Sears) or Black (Genesis) color.  Picture of Gray and Black color below.

db9 cable cut to length you want.  Default is 36 inches, but can be 36 to 66 inches.

When ordering tell me case color and db9 cable length.

Tested with the following controllers.

2600 controller

Sega brand 3 and 6 button Genesis controller.

Sega brand SMS controller

If controller (buttons B and C) have rapid fire, then you still have rapid fire when playing on Intellivision.  Rapid Fire being effective is still based on the game being played.

Features:

Front DB9 port for Atari 2600, Sega Master System or Sega Genesis controller

Rear db9 cable that plugs into Intellivision 2 or Sears.  Also connects to Intellivision 1 if you add db9 ports to it.

DC power jack in rear.

Adapter provides up to 200ma of power.

Front mount red power led

Front mount push on, push off power button (Gray color).

Custom designed sticker on bottom, made by person on AA who makes all the stickers I use

Sega Genesis Button Mapping:

Sega Genesis B button = Intellivision Top Left/Right Action button

Sega Genesis C button = Intellivision Bottom Left Action button

Sega Genesis B+C at the same time = Intellivision Bottom Right Action button

Sega Master System (SMS) Button Mapping:

SMS button 1 = Intellivision Top Left/Right Action button

SMS button 2 = Intellivision Bottom Left Action button

SMS 1 and 2 at the same time = Intellivision Bottom Right Action button

Atari 2600 Button Mapping:

Atari 2600 action button = Intellivision Top Left/Right Action button

Very cool. I'd like to say I'm interested in one but I still use your Intv arcade controller design religiously, so I'm not sure if I'll truly need this or not. Of course if I have the extra money to get one, I would. :)

Could I just put a power jack on the front of the console to power it instead of using an adapter? I remember you did something similar on an Inty II when you first made your arcade controller, although that jack might have been 5vdc and this requires 9v dc. Just thinking out loud.. I can't remember what all voltages are available off hand to tap off of from inside the console.

Also on case color, when you say yellow, do you mean a cream color like the SVA is?

fixed the Color names.

Almond color is very much like Sears model.

Its best to use the power adapter I recommend.

Ok thanks. I'd just like to think about it a little but probably will pick one up in the almond color to match the Sears system which is what I predominantly use.
Thanks.

If this was around when I had an Intellivision I'd still own it today. Where was this 6 years ago!?

Recovering from surgery.  Will most likely be fall now.  Looks like I'll end up making 5 as there is very low interest.

I've had worse luck this year.  Had second major surgery a couple of weeks ago.  I'm still looking to do this project, however it needs to be delayed to Early 2018.

Sorry for the delay.

Thanks for the update, grips!  Take care of yourself and get better - that's obviously the most important thing.
