My modded flashback 2

That looks really cool! :) I thought the Flashback 2's were limited to 4K carts only due to a design flaw. Ms Pacman is an 8K bankswitched cart, so I bet the supercharger and the harmony would work with your model too.

So far Ms PacMan has been playing fine. I can't find it now but I came across a page before browsing the web that listed games that were compatible and games that had issues but I can't find it now.

If I recall, the A12 line, which internally is handled correctly because it plays built-in Millipede (w/Sara chip RAM), is not working correctly when you solder a cart connector to the circuit board numbered traces.

Games with RAM, advanced bank switch game carts, and The Supercharger fail because external A12 doesn't change.

I tried my plain 32K bank switched Berzerk hack, and that runs on the Flashback 2.

So any non-RAM 8K, 16K, 32K should play.

I seem to recall some Undocumented Opcodes cause some game programs to fail, but those would be mostly used in homebrew era games.

The Flashback 2 board needs probed to see if the A12 line can be picked up somewhere else.

Like when playing the built-in Millipede, is an external trace changing the way A12 should?

The Flashback 2+ has a ROM board with pins that hold the built-in games. Some of those pins have to connect to the "Atari on a Chip".

The early Flachback 2 had the ROMs under a black glob.

Here are some pics of my modded flashback 2. I'm not done yet though I'm going to add an LED for power and I am going to put in a switch for automatic switch between cart and internal. Just wanted to show my progress so far with my 3D printer and freecad.

Hi.
Did you ever end up putting an LED indicator on yours?
I put one on mine, but not sure I did it correctly, as the output voltage reads 4.2V (maybe it always did).
Carts + internal ROM still work though.
Thanks

I've had a couple of Flashback 2's for quite a few years now with the intention to do one of these mods.

Still trying to decide the location. I kind of like the idea of putting it on the right side. Still in the 'design' or 'Trying to figure it out' phase. So far I have everything I need except the the toggle switch. I think I will get another channel selector switch to use for that.

I sell mod kits for this. With the switch integrated into the cartridge guide.
Here:

If your selling a kit, I'm interested! I like the idea of an integrated switch, that just cool. How would someone go about getting one?? Will the cartridge slot work on the side? Or just the top.

I sell these as kits, the kit includes a template that fits on top of the flash so you can mark where to cut. The cartridge slot with the leads pretinned, the switche(s) calibrated to activate when the cartridge is inserted.

My website is here:

www.flashback2.com

If you'd like one, tell me the color you'd like (most choose black, but I can make about any color), Use paypal friends and family to send $35 to jipock@gmail.com and give me your address.

Thanks!

@JimmyIpock I understand that the cartridge mod can be performed on the FB2+ as well. I find no mention of

this on your site. Do you know if your mod instructions would be identical on a 2+?

I am NOT 100% sure about this. However, if you would like for me to mod your FB+, I would be willing to take it. If I cannot mod it, I will find a really nice FB 2 and mod it for you. Normally it's around $50 to mod someone's Flashback for them. However, I would be happy to do it for the cost of the mod kit $35. That removes your risk.

Of course, you can order a mod kit for $35 from me if you want to do the work yourself.

I might take you up on this. To start, I could snap some pics of the FB2+ mobo and post them here.

First time I checked on this post or any for that matter for awhile but I say that is the nicest one I've seen online for top loader.  I really like it.
