Which rotory controller?

Just wanting to feed back on which controller option would be best. They're both from same user.

I recently bought the second option (with the switch) from this seller and it's great. I can vouch for it. I like the fact that the D-pad is preserved so you can also use the pad for all games, not just Tempest, Impulse X etc. Either version of the controller is a worthy addition to any Jag collection.

 

It really does make a difference to games like Tempest. The control is more accurate and intuitive. Highly recommended!

In the dual pad does the rotary get in the way of the dpad operation at all?

It does a little but it's far enough away for the d-pad to be useable. It depends on the game.

Same here. I got the one with it on the back and it works great. Tempest is so much better with it.

I made my own using some NOS controllers and the Bournes PEC11R-4015K-N0024 rotary encoder. Actually a pretty easy job if you're ok with a soldering iron.

 

What I like about this installation on the back is that they don't get in the way when you're not using them. But when you are, you use it right handed (I don't know why, but that seems so much more natural) and the buttons fall just nicely under your left hand.

 

Reminds me that I've got a third controller that came with the console that I could do with modding. Might flog that one though when it's done.
