OT: Uninterruptable Power Supply (Real World Opinions/Advice)

we did as well, their support is practically non existant, and the devices are meant to be disposable if the battery dies ...we went back to APC

This. And the monitoring software for CyberPower has not been impressive to me. I rather like PowerChute's features.

One HUGE problem I have with APC UPSes is they will continue to trickle-charge a bad battery or battery pack. This eventually leads to over-heated and swollen, cracked, or leaking batteries. In some units this makes it impossible to remove the batteries without disassembling the unit.

ya I just did that a few months ago with a 1500VA 900 watt rackmount, it was a interesting "treat"

excuse me it was the 1kw version with its irritating fumble though a menu to shut it of feature heh, luckily they dont go south very often, and ~800 bucks for UPS vs like what 200$ for all new replacement batteries is not too bad

I doubt I would bother with it on small models though

I picked up two of these at Staples, but you can get them at Amazon for under $170.00 with free shipping << HERE >>.

I like the EASILY REPLACEABLE battery pack, so a few years down the line when I'll probably need to replace the battery, all I'll need to do is remove the door, slide out the battery and shove the new one in. So far I've been happy with it and it's been getting good ratings.

UGH, i hear you. i ended up bending the frame in the center on one that was swollen and leaking, and even then it took some degree of trouble to get the stupid thing out.
