Retropalooza Houston April 22nd-23rd

Forgot this was coming up, thanks for the reminder! I plan to head over one day, just not sure which one as I've a tentative day trip to Victoria. My sister & family where here for the Houston Art Car Parade and left some things behind. Some of the items are bulky, thus expensive to ship down to her in Corpus Christi, so we're meeting up for lunch at The Pumphouse (awesome food, check it out if you're ever in Victoria).

My short review from last year:

Much better than I was expecting for a first year event! Was just disappointed that retro didn't go back to the 2600, it started with NES.

Thanks for the info! That's sad to hear that it only goes back to NES. For me the real draw is all pre-NES. I like NES and all but I don't collect it. Was there a noteworthy arcade or pinball showing? How are the vendors? Any decent stuff for us interested in pre NES (i.e. the pre-pokemon crowd ;)?

I know Brett Weiss will be there selling his books and usually some games from Atari to current. I will be selling mostly NES and later because last year I brought Atari/Intv/Colecovision and sold maybe 10 bucks worth total. I still have a bit I'm bringing.
I did see a few more vendors last year with some Atari and INTV games (I even picked up a copy of Alien for 2600). I even saw a couple with some Atari 8bit stuff. But the majority will be NES and later.

Gamester81 will be there this year, so he will have more to offer for pre-NES gamers.

I had a blast, and I'm an Intellivision fan.

I don't recall all that was there, but think I did pick up a few pre-NES items. The "started with NES" may not have been intentional, just a matter of the speakers who agreed to appear at a first year event. Perhaps I should talk to somebody to see about giving my 2600 homebrew presentation next year :ponder:

That'd be awesome. Are you familiar with Gamester81? Doesn't he post here sometimes?

Looks like that'll be on Saturday at 2pm. I'll be sure to attend his presentation if I'm there on Saturday.

Since his focus appears to be ColecoVision, that makes it more likely that the "started with NES" feel of the show was due to they could get to appear last year.

It was definitely a younger vibe on the guests. Although I know Pat the NES Punk and Ian always speak fondly of AtariAge. :)

Great to see you again, Mr. Spice. Very much looking forward to more about Draconian! Looks promising.

Same here! Thank! CDF underwent a major revision, as described in this blog entry. I finished implementing the changes to CDF in Stella on Sunday so the test ROMs all work, though I still need to finish the changes to Stella's debugger. I expect to wrap that up during the week and resume work on Draconian this weekend.
