shear_xear
Hi everyone. I just got a heavy sixer today, and after replacing the missing cable that connects the two boards, I have a black screen when powered on. Are there any usual suspects for this kind of problem I should check? Thanks!
+DrVenkman
Too many variables, really. Do you have a cart in the machine when you power it on? What kind of TV are you testing with? Some modern sets can't lock onto analog RF signals very well. Do you get snow with the unit off and then a black screen when it's powered on? Or what, exactly? Assuming you have a set that is known to work with old gear, and you've got a cart in the machine, I'd check the power supply, the voltage regulator, the RF modular solder points, the 6507 chip, the TIA and then maybe something like the oscillator crystal. shear_xear
The TV is my usual set I use with my RF adapter so that's not the issue. I have static when off then black when on. I know the power supply is good, replaced the voltage regulator, and went over the RF modular solder points. I will swap out the 6507, and TIA chips and hope that gets me somewhere. Thanks!
H454
If you try those and still have problems - check REPLACE your 4050. I have had it cause black screens on a heavy 6r and a sears II. https://console5.com/store/cd4050-cmos-hex-buffer-converters-atari-2600-5200-4050.html Edited May 9, 2017 by H454

I had a six switcher burn up my cart (harmony) from a faulty 7805 as well. Edited May 18, 2017 by the_crayon_king
