Keatah
Just as the title says, "Did Model I/III ever have a color graphics standard?" This could be in form of a daughterboard, or a stand-alone cabinet/module, or a plug-in card. Was there ever a standard that saw widespread usage in scientific circles or mathematics visualization? I wouldn't expect anything for DTP however.

George Phillips
Nothing from Tandy/Radio Shack, but there were a number of 3rd party solutions. The most popular was the CHORMAtrs: http://www.trs-80.org/chromatrs/ I'm sure it was quite a small market. Follow the link and you'll find links to some other 3rd party color graphics hardware. Omega-TI
*IF* and yes, that's a big IF, one could be located, I wonder how much it would go for? Talk about the rare of the rare!
Nebulon
Couple that with the Z80 CPU already in the computer and the CHROMAtrs is awfully close the ColecoVision, MSX1, or SC-3000. I wonder if there's any possibility of ports of games.... Again, like the article mentioned, very niche. Neat niche, yet niche nonetheless (there's a tongue-twister). JamesD
The Model V was supposedly going to have color. When the Z280 was postponed I'm pretty sure that killed Radio Shack's intentions for that computer line.(the IV was originally supposed to include a Z280)

Nebulon
Hmmm.... Looks like they did have a machine with a Z80 4MHz option for sale in 1978: (the XiTAN): https://archive.org/stream/Tandy_Computers_1978_Catalog_1978_Tandy_Partial#page/n3/mode/2up How would you like to drop the equivalent of $22,000.00 in today's dollars on a micro-computer? ($7495.00 in 1978 for a XiTAN Alpha). Edited April 28, 2017 by Nebulon

Also since it's got our favorite VDP maybe a F18a would work on it.. Greg
JamesD
Wow. That's quite the CPU ! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zilog_Z280 The first Model IV motherboards supposedly had a socket for it. The Model IV would have run Model III software, CP/M, and new software for the even faster Z280. Another feature planned for the Model V was supposedly a higher Z280 clock speed. I think the plan was to phase out all their Z80 machines and maybe a few others in favor of the Model IV and V.
