Omega-TI
Okay, here's the deal, one of the best games for the TI does NOT have a manual! The port by Rasmus of Super TI Mario Brothers is an AWESOME game, in fact it has everything, except a manual. Will some artistic and graphics capable person please step up to the plate and rectify this for the TI community? We'll be in your debt. I was hoping YOU would come forward (because you make some terrific manuals), but IIRC, Rasmus once told me he had no plans to continue it's development further. Omega-TI
A manual for Super Mario Bros.? That's like needing instructions for boiling water. Even the most simple of games should have a manual! Even if it's just about the scoring. There are hints and things about the game I did not notice the first dozen or so times I played, so even touching on aspects of play would be cool. Another thing manuals are good for... advertising not the game itself, but the platform it runs on. Any manual could sneak in a reference to our little community here at Atari Age. It's like fishing over the Internet, you never know when you'll hook a new one for the community.
Asmusr
In order to create a full conversion I would have needed information about the formats and data structures used by Nintendo (like a had for Jet Set Willy). Converting the levels one by one by hand was too much work, and I ran out out CPU resources because of my lack of understanding of the original game engine. I could perhaps have proceeded further if a had chosen to use the F18A GPU, but my intention was to run the game entirely on the old CPU. Still, I like to think that the 3 levels and 2 sub-levels contain more complexity than many complete TI games. I don't really think the game needs a manual, but I'm happy for anyone to create one. YouTube is far better at promoting the TI than a manual. My lame Mario Bros video, which only shows a single level, has been viewed 5,685 times, only beaten by the Megademo video that has been watched 20,213 times. Perhaps if I switched on ads I could have made $10-$20?
matthew180
... Perhaps if I switched on ads I could have made $10-$20? Nintendo is one of the few companies still around from the classic computer and video game era who still knows their legacy and protects their IP. I suspect if you switched on ads and started making money on your port, you might attract the wrong kind of attention.
PeBo
While I agree that Super Mario is a jaw-dropping accomplishment (as all the "that's a fake, right??" comments on YouTube attest), I'd hate for us to crown a demo as our flagship F18A "game". For that, I like to show off Scramble... ...to see why, just take a look at the "Let's compare Scramble" youtube video, and tell me that ours is not the best of the arcade ports (yes, I dare say even better than the 2015 C64 version!!). While Mario is an awesome spot-on duplicate of the nintendo game's first couple of levels (especially impressive considering it was done without documentation or references - kinda like playing Rachmaninoff by ear!!), the F18A enhanced Scramble is simply the best conversion of that game on ANY era-specific machine! (and it's the whole game...or at least it seems to be judging by how far I get) AND you don't NEED an F18A to play it!
