ACML
It's official, 1200XL prices on eBay have gone past "ludicrous" and straight to "plaid". In the last hour someone bought out the four 1200XLs at insane prices. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Atari-1200XL-Computer-Mint-Original-W-Box-Access-Works-Great-No-Reserve-/332193283172?hash=item4d58433c64:g:zcIAAOSwIWVY~XEa http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Atari-1200XL-Computer-w-Power-Adapter-joystick-3-games-/192174214673?hash=item2cbe79ce11:g:wfoAAOSwOgdY0hUJ http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Atari-1200XL-Computer-Power-Supply-TV-Switch-Box-w-Cable-Basic-CXL4002-/391755156887?hash=item5b366d4d97:g:A2oAAOSwB-1YyqpW http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Atari-1200XL-/182538531599?hash=item2a8024f30f:g:lkYAAOSwSypY-V~x Ok, which one of you lucky geeks just won the PowerBall lottery? That's the only way I can explain this. What next, investment portfolios that have 1200XL commodity futures? What am I missing here? Just when I thought prices were getting out of hand last year when 1200XLs were selling north of $150, someone buys one for $430 plus shipping!!! I'm not selling my two, but come on people, use some restraint and prices will come back to earth. Edited May 2, 2017 by ACML
tjlazer
All Atari prices have gone up. If you think this is bad, look up Falcon030 prices! Glad I got all my gear 10 years ago!
tschak909
...and people wonder why I am so gung ho about emulation? .... *smfh* -Thom
+David_P
It's also dealers running out - Best has run out of 1200xls and 1200xl motherboards; B&C doesn't have any either. I just bought Best's last SX212, and am now considering selling it instead of keeping it - since an unboxed one recently sold for double what I paid. That said, I'm keeping enough hardware to keep hands on - emulation is fun, but the old style hardware still excites me and makes me happy in ways that emulation never will.
Tempest
Im going to sell my decked out one (heavily modified) as soon as I can get my hands on an Incognito for my 800. With a memory upgrade, PBI mod, video mod, and compatibility mod, I wonder what it will go for?
+mytek
Besides emulation, it's starting to make my XEL look pretty reasonable, especially when you consider that the 1200XL's have nothing 'extra', being pretty much the lowest common denominator (64K, no PBI, no built-in Basic). - Michael
+David_P
If you need a complete set of Atari ICs, you could do worse than ordering a populated 600xl motherboard from Best - $55 (https://www.best-electronics-ca.com/800xl.htm)

Mclaneinc
I've always wanted two machines, a 1200XL and a 1450XLD, I once decided the 1200 was achievable but those days are long gone, this is just stupid money, like tschak909 I also shout emulation at every turn, soon it may be the only way... Stormtrooper of Death
Last week, there was an Atari 1200XL for sale on the Dutch Marktplaats (sort of e-bay in Holland). about 175 euros or so. I wanted to buy it, but in the end it was sold for a bit more. Not often are 1200XL for sale in the Netherlands.

That was pretty insane to see when I woke up this morning and reviewed the GreedBay's goings-on overnight. Makes me VERY glad that I did my insane 1200XL adoptions last year; I can't imagine spending that amount per system. If the buyer(s) are flippers, it'll be fascinating to see what they turn around and bump them up to next. --Tim
hunter44102
I got laughed at 15 years ago for paying $500 for a complete Falcon 030 system (including ethernet, many accessories, and SC1224 monitor).
+DrVenkman
I'm so glad I got most of my current A8 hardware 15 or 16 years ago before prices skyrocketed (including two 1200XL's!)
+orpheuswaking
Looks like it is time to fix up the three I have that have various broken keyboards. I'm sure I can combine parts to get two working machines and then canibilize the third to repair the one I fried (I do have two others that are in perfect working order that I would never sell)

But I'd say someone got a really nice tax return back.... and they spent it. --Tim

zzip
They've got the best keyboard of any 8-bit Atari system But the worst compatibility. Too bad the 1400XL never saw the light of day. Might have been the best of both.
ryanmercer
To be fair there is a finite supply, perhaps someone just wanted them for future parts. I mean, I think I have a dozen 800xl's now and any time I have a little extra money to spend and see one for a reasonable price I buy it just to have another machine for parts in the future.
Timothy Kline
But the worst compatibility. Back in its original day, sure, compatibility was an issue. But today, with mods like AtariMax's 32-in-1 OS and the Ultimate 1MB which both overcome the former OS-related incompatibilities surrounding the 1200XL, it's no longer an issue. --Tim
_The Doctor__
The number of times I have seen such 'winning' high bid numbers and then found out it was sold to oneself to bend the curve.... or the buyer simply doesn't complete the purchase has been astounding... but I have seen an awful amount of 'sucker' and 'stupid' in my day as well Last 1200XL I bought was 3 weeks ago for 6.95 at American Family Services Thrift stores..... It appears to have come from one town away.... and it works... they also had a crap ton of tube tv's Edited May 3, 2017 by _The Doctor__
