Test an STe without a monitor

Recommended Posts

I have received the STe that I ordered, but the monitor has not yet arrived (different seller). Perhaps a silly question, but Is there a way that I can test the STe without a monitor. E.g. should I hear some sounds or can I use a keyboard combo to make a noise through the audio out on the STe?

The unit powers on.. The Disk drive makes noise, but I do not have any disks to test.

Sorry for the question, but I'm trying to gauge if this machine is going to need a new PSU or if there is something else that might be seriously wrong.

It can be hooked up to a TV, as long as you have an RF switch box-- the same type the 2600 and 8-bit computers use.

It also has stereo connectors you can hook up to a line-in on an audio device- should be able to hear the keyclicks through that.

But if the power light comes on and the disk drive attempts to read disks, it probably is booting

I'll have to go pick up an RF Switch Box.. I do not have one laying around. No sound is coming out when I press keys.. Not sure what it's booting up too or if it's booting at all.

Kevin

the keyclick sound is only heard through the speakers.

Without a disk, it will boot to the GEM desktop after a few seconds

Thank you Zzip.

I was able to get the computer hooked up to an HDTV via the built in RF modulator. The computer works.
