bikerspade
I've had the laser/assembly go bad on my old SCPH-5001, and it started to go bad on a SCPH-1001 I picked up from an estate sale last year. Recently added a PSIO and HDRetrovision component cables to the SCPH-1001 and it's fantastic.
0078265317
I have the red white and yellow Eva jacks version. And GameStop has one 20gb backwards compatible unit left in Highland Indiana if anybody lives near by. https://www.gamestop.com/ps3/consoles/playstation-3-system-20gb-bc/115334
Games Retrospect
Personally, I've always wanted one of the slim models, but some friends from when I was a kid had problems with them. Maybe they are unreliable as people here say. The one I have is one of the older models (I have no idea which one) and works fine. When I was a teenager though, the game was playing froze and I lost some progress. I was playing Digimon World 3 for a few hours and it was a hot summer. It sucked, but it was also awesome. Whatever PSone you can get is fine, I think. That thing has a massive library of games you can play.
Tanooki
I've never had reliability issues with the slimmer smaller PSone, though the original was a piece of garbage that had fairly notable problems with failing to the point some would have to be set up side down just to read a disc.
