Devalis
Anyone ever get ideas for games and then realize you don't have the chops for programming? Edited May 7, 2017 by Devalis

Devalis
I've been chewing on this idea for a 2600 game, pretty simple one actually, but I'm not a programmer..
SignGuy81
I should've mentioned I have no programming experience with the Atari 2600. I've done some stuff in C# for Xbox 360 with XNA but that was a long time ago, and took a class on Visual Basic, and also have used GameMaker Studio but all that has been a few years back. I heard that Atari 2600 is difficult to program for due to the nature of how it operates but it is something I'd like to learn at some point. But no I don't have the chops for it either I was joking more or less because I'm always out of ideas but if someone handed me something showing me what they want done I can do it no problem(if I have enough time) but coming up with the idea myself is the hard part. Osgeld
I have the chops for programming but can't ever get any ideas for games. or if its me I finally get some AAA level title (for an 8 bit) in my head and 10% the way though I get distracted by a shiny object or some other thing in life and never return Edited May 7, 2017 by Osgeld
gauauu
Don't worry, those of us that are programmers don't get around to doing half of our ideas either.

Devalis
With this all said, i am going to take a crack at coding my own game sometime soon, not sure how far I'll get, but you never now 'till you try eh?
CDS Games
Right. That's always the best policy. You'll grow old on here waiting for someone else to do the heavy lifting on your idea. Good luck!

Osgeld
as a long time ludumdare vet, like jeez 4 times a year for over 10 years, where you get tossed a theme and 48 hours to make a game, no matter how crap it is, you have to ask yourself is it worth you spending time to make a crap game that show's the potential of your idea, or is it worth your time to gather a bunch of finikey people to fail making your idea into a crap game that is no where close to what you wanted make a crap game, once you have a foundation, you have a clear directive for you or others to work on improving, many 48 hour crap games have become selling, good games, most noticeable is some crap game called minecraft, that started as a challenge and I dunno it might have sold a few copies your game may suck in art, it may run slow, heck it may be unplayable, but once you have the foundation, and it has potential, you will gather talent, either in yourself or in team members final point is if you suck at art, make a crap game if you suck at programming, make a crap game if you suck at sound, make a crap game if you make a crap game, your 10x more experienced than you were before making a crap game Edited May 10, 2017 by Osgeld
IHATETHEBEARS
Swordquest Airworld. There's a great game idea. I'd love to see one of the skilled programmers around here finish the series.

Tod Frye said a couple of years ago that he might just take a crack at it.

Oh please no, there's enough wrong with the world already, we don't need another SwordQuest game.
