Coleco strong-arming homebrew publishers and fan sites

I really really hope this video was taken before the show opened:

https://instagram.com/p/BXa7Dn3Bd4Z/

I was under the impression that that's the result you wanted with the call to boycott the expo.

If it is the result of your call then hat's off to you for having such an impact on the CV community, if it is instead totally unrelated then either Cardillo really doesn't know how to draw crowds (as you pointed out multiple times with his failures on social media) or there just is no crowd.

Obviously let's wait to see more videos from the expo to see how good/bad/empty it was .... (to be fair with all the cosplay, Robotech-this and Robotech-that I am not even sure what part the ColecoVision, as in "videogame", was left to play)

I've never heard of any of them. No exactly an inspiring line up.

All they talked about during the brief part I watched was their books, how they might do more books and how other people ripped off their ideas for books.

EDIT: I just checked out the couple other videos from the stream Coleco has posted. At the end of each you can hear a whole 5 people clapping. Dear God that is sad. You think they would have pulled the plug on the whole thing to save face. There is no way in hell they can spin this to call it a successful event.

Had to go to YouTube to be able to even watch their videos at all. I watched several minutes of one, and quickly got tired of it. It was just like you said: talking about the books they've done, will do, yada yada yada. In the few minutes I watched, the guy in the middle basically monopolized the entire monologue. There was another video that had no audio whatsoever. This expo turned out to be a bigger farce than I thought it would be.

So here's another example of how stupid and shady Chris Cardillo is...

It would appear that he is selling his "Coleco Expo Exclusive" copies of Sydney Hunter on eBay!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sydney-Hunter-ColecoVision-Retro-Gaming-Expo-Exclusive-Sealed-MISB-Coleco-/292196012189

attachicon.gifScreen Shot 2017-08-02 at 01.05.00.png

Dear Chris Cardillo - Your "Coleco Expo Exclusive" copy of the game is no longer "exclusive" to the Expo if you are selling it on eBay!!! So now that's false advertising to those people whom you have sold copies to that think the only way to get them is at the Expo.

Remember folks, don't buy from shady people like Chris Cardillo. Buy your copy directly from CollectorVision instead. Here is their listing on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sydney-Hunter-Colecovision-Limited-Edition-NEW/332325824459

OR you can buy from http://www.collectorvision.com

Additionally the listing states:

"Coleco will be conducting their first Coleco Expo in the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center located in Edison New Jersey. At this event fans will be able to pick up a convention exclusive version of Sydney Hunter for the Colecovision console and Adam computer with 100% of profits from the sale of this cartridge being donated to the Free 2 Luv organization."

I don't think it actually works on the Adam, hope people don't buy them for their Adam and find out it doesn't work and have to return them! Couple of people on FB mentioned that it doesn't work, and the new box design only mentions Colecovision.

Here is a re-cap of updates and reviews from the 2017 Coleco Expo in New Jersey:

Dear God that is sad. You think they would have pulled the plug on the whole thing to save face. There is no way in hell they can spin this to call it a successful event.

Having done some research today on social media and chatting with a couple of people who were actually there, the expo would appear to be a complete embarrassing disaster. From the photos and videos that were posted, even from the content that Coleco themselves posted, you can see giant empty areas where it looks like vendor space was not filled, hardly anyone in attendance, the content of the expo seemed to be mostly cosplay, they had consoles set up to play, but I actually didn't see a single ColecoVision unit!

NOTE: NONE of the photos below were taken by me. None of the photos below were taken for the purpose of making the show "look bad." These are just photos that people have posted from the show (some of them even coming from the official show social media) making the show look exactly as other people see it. These are not *MY* reviews but a compilation of thoughts, reviews, and comments made from other people on social media.

Here's some of the stuff I found...

First off all, take a look at this video that was posted about 3 hours after the show opened:

Here's another video where a guy does a walk around the show floor. I think you see about 20 people total in attendance:

https://www.pscp.tv/w/1OdJroQMzQpxX

Take a look at photos I've found from a handful of people posting from the show. What is also telling is that it was only a "handful" of people posting. If you search the hashtags on social media, not much shows up...

coleco expo 2.png

This certainly looks welcoming! lol

coleco expo 3.png

Register here... for the show you'll be done in 15 minutes seeing.

coleco expo 4.png

Nice cosplay! Too bad there isn't anyone around to appreciate it.

coleco expo 5.png

Congratulations, having this photo on AtariAge means more people will see your costume HERE than at the Coleco Expo. ;)

coleco expo 6.png

Not going to be taking in many quarters today. ;)

coleco expo 7.png

It doesn't matter if the photo is blurry because there isn't anything to see anyway.

coleco expo 8.png

Mario! LOOK OUT!!! There are like THREE PEOPLE nearby!!!

coleco expo 9.jpg

I honestly feel sorry for the vendors who I'm sure have probably lost money on this show.

coleco expo 10.png

Mario's all "I need to get an Uber to take me the hell out of here..."

coleco expo 11.png

They had lots of consoles set up... Nintendo, XBOX, Playstation... but where are the ColecoVisions????

coleco expo 12.png

Once again, be happy your photo ended up on AtariAge where someone will actually see it!

coleco expo 13.png

"Can we try to win tickets to a GOOD show?"

coleco expo 14.png

"I'm lost...can you point me in the direction of the cosplay convention that people are actually attending?"

coleco expo 15.png

"Somebody...ANYBODY please check out my Booty 'Os!"

coleco expo 17.png

"We have stuff to sell but no customers to buy..."

To be fair, here's a couple of photos I found that show the MOST people at any given time, which was about 20...

coleco expo 19.pngcoleco expo 18.png

And here was the group photo that Coleco posted of cosplayers for their big contest, again about 20 people...

coleco expo 20.jpg

Here is a video posted to the "ColecoVision Nation" Coleco Toys owned fake fanpage that show just what a complete unprofessional disaster Chris Cardillo is:

https://www.facebook.com/1880616815488307/videos/1913155902234398/

Here's another video where Cardillo is talking to some of the vendors at the show and I feel so bad for these people because everything about this is just awful:

https://www.facebook.com/1880616815488307/videos/1913123368904318/

How do you tell Cardillo: "Chris! These videos are EMBARRASSING!!!" First off all, he's terrible at conducting any sort of discussion with these people, secondly, when they pan around there is NOBODY THERE! I'd have to think the vendors lost money at this show.

Here's a few comments from someone who went to the expo today:

Screen Shot 2017-08-05 at 22.33.51.png

And this person also sent us a few photos from the peak hours of the expo:

"Here is what it looked like. Seriously it was sad. And again, this is 12:30 in the afternoon."

DGg3zRnXcAITRQl.jpg

DGg3yQ7XkAEvcMc.jpg

DGg3wXvXYAApKz0.jpg

There is no way in hell they can spin this to call it a successful event.

Quoted for truth!

I'm personally pretty happy about this. The way Coleco has treated the community, they deserve to get zero support and that is exactly what they got!

DAY TWO!

Once again I'm looking at actual real videos & photos taken by random people who are at the expo. Here's one that was just posted about 30 minutes ago showing a nearly empty vendor area with vendors sitting around bored with not many customers in sight:

Those are real actual photos of what the show floor looks like! And even the photos that Coleco themselves are posting show a giant empty show floor in the background like this one:

Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 16.38.28.png

Here is another review from someone who was at the show on day two:

Screen Shot 2017-08-06 at 19.51.42.png

These videos right here are not just COMEDY GOLD but also give you a VERY good perspective on the entire show. Please watch them both:

https://www.facebook.com/paul.snearowski/videos/1788559307825018/

Here's another GREAT review of the Coleco Expo. Start at 1:26:00 on this video:

And just to be fair, in case you think we are trying to just post the bad, there ARE people playing in the game room at least as shown in this video: https://www.instagram.com/p/BXdv1Hbjtgq/

But also strange there isn't a single ColecoVision console set up to play at the "Coleco" show. ;)

It's a shame there's no subtitles/CC in the videos of Cardillo speaking. Everything is unintelligible to me. As a hearing-impaired person with a hearing aid, just being loud enough doesn't mean it's clear enough to me. Listening to podcasts/videos is very different than listening in a face-to-face setting. Due to his body language and everybody else's awkwardness, I could surmise that it was very unorganized and very unprofessional.

The poor turnout wasn't just from the public splat with the Coleco Retro Community which just happen to be the cherry to the cake.

Sad thing is Coleco didn't have Guess Speakers from the Original Coleco, Rainbow Brite Cartoon show, or Robotoech TV Show or Macross Anime or their manga/comics. A Expo that you need to pay 20-34 US dollars is about having strong attractions to pull in a crowd and be attractive to Vendors and promote your products for the future.

Oh, I'm aware. The poor turnout is mostly because Cardillo is not a competent enough person to organize a respectable show. That being said, the retrogaming spat DID keep away many of the Coleco homebrewers and fans that might have otherwise presented or attended the show. And because of that, I'll be more than happy to take that icing! ;)

Also, did I miss any announcements for the mini-arcade??? I didn't see anything about them being "announced" and I'm pretty sure that was hinted that was happening. Maybe tomorrow? But it seems super stupid not to do it on their first day if they are announcing them at all.

Quoted for truth. When I first heard about the expo long ago, I didn't even know Chris Cardillo existed, let alone who he was. It was his bullshit and the way he treated the community that quickly let me know about his existence and what he was all about. I was excited when I first heard there would be a "Coleco" expo because I thought it would be mostly Colecovision-themed with many Colecovision fans and buyers/sellers. When I first heard about it, I contemplated possibly buying tickets for it; however, Cardillo's antics quickly put the kibosh on that. I had no desire whatsoever to buy tickets at that point, and my desire actually became even lesser when it became more and more apparent what a joke the expo would be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Cardillo and his gang pretty much hint that there would be Rainbow Brite minicades or some format of the game AVAILABLE at the expo, only for attendees to suddenly find out that is not so and they must enter a raffle for a chance to win one? I don't remember all the details of what they said would or wouldn't be available, but the whole thing seemed like an unprofessional disaster.
