Great Hierophant Posted June 12, 2017 Share Posted June 12, 2017 (edited) I believe I read something about RWB purchasing the Coleco IP from Hasbro a long time ago, which would give RWB the right to license the ColecoVision BIOS and some of Coleco's games for the system to atgames. Perhaps Bill Loguidice could confirm that. I can't recall any complaints about atgames releasing systems with games it did not properly license. And the secondary copyrights eg. Sega, Taito, G-mode, and others? Why doesnt it say copyright Coleco Holdings on the box? Edit: RWB may have believed that some of the copyrights are unenforceable. Flojomojo Posted June 12, 2017 Share Posted June 12, 2017 Hard to say what they did to secure copyright licenses. But RWB did try to Trademark Sega's Zaxxon and Broderbunds "Choplifter!" [and Taito's "Jungle Hunt"]. Interestingly Data East's "Burgertime" had an active trademark by G-mode but with "Bump'n'jump" it's trademarked on the alternate name "Burnin Rubber". So the Flashback has Bump'njump but not Burgertime. Both those Data East games were programmed by Mattel and code sold to old Coleco with graphics and music now belonging to G-mode. The code for Zaxxon and Choplifter [and Jungle Hunt] also belonged to old Coleco. And some other rights belong to Sega and possibly Dan Gorlin. It's odd to think Sega would have let their old arcade game go like this. It's fine though. As you can see from this data they haven't got a CLUE on how to run a Facebook page or social media... The top three pages are the ones I either operate or contribute to, and you can see how well Coleco and *cough* ColecoVision Nation *cough* is doing. This is information that anyone who has a Facebook Page can get so it's not private info by any means. It basically shows that they have no idea what they are doing. Which is par for the course for EVERYTHING that Chris Cardillo does. I would break down even further their mistakes and failures (which is pretty much everything they are doing) but I won't as I don't want to give them any ideas. Oh, one Pro Tip I will give to Chris Cardillo, it is SOOOOO OBVIOUS when you buy fake Twitter followers! Because when the majority of your ~9k followers look like this: Anyone who has even the slightest clue about how social media works knows those were all bought from an overseas Twitter user farm, and anyone who knows even less than the slightest clue about social media know YOU DON'T DO THAT if you want anyone to respect you. To me, it appears to be a case of a guy desperately, but ineptly trying control the narrative and all public information in a losing game of damage control, while at the same time insulting our collective intelligence. [we've seen what NO good came to MK last time around, I don't see this ending any better] It seems clear that one cannot "hold" a TM without a product, they cannot license it for a third party product and then use that product as a way to get the TM in the first place .... right? It appears that TM handling is quite different than copyrights and patents, those can be sold and bought and held with the sole intent to "license them out" (aka patent troll), but TM does not seem to work that way, it kind of make sense that you MUST have a product to market in order to even claim a TM. If this unfolds correctly it may spell freedom for a lot of "held captive" TMs from TM hoarders with no intent to release any product themselves, aside Coleco or videogames.
