Toys ‘R’ Us is evaluating bankruptcy as they are almost out of cash and nearing 5 billion in debt, this retailer was supposedly going to be used to showcase a New CV Retro Console from prior posts, which generated this entire mess.

Any time I have walked into our Toys R Us outside of the holidays, you can hear a pin drop. Can't see it lasting for more than a few years. Why go there when a drone can drop off the action figures and baby diapers you just ordered...

Nice...

Feel bad for TRU, but poetic justice in a way for Coleco and Posse.

I've shopped in TRU on occasion, but mostly as a childless man-geek. At the height of the Amiibo craze they saw me in and out a lot. Mostly though man-geeks like us just buy crap on the internet without the overhead of a retail outlet.

Its still a fun place to take a kid with some pocket money, but we are definitely feeling like we could get by without it. All the non-baby TRU locations within 20 miles of me went away years ago.

I hear its a very tough market. Everything is imported, and almost everything seems like its branded with trendy licenses. Lots of Trolls Movie stuff last time I was there, something that probably wont have much appeal past Christmas.

Did the lunatic back down?
Has TPR regained the rights (not that he ever lost them really) to show the CV logo and games as much as he wants to, homebrews or otherwise?

I presume not, but at this point what's the lunatic got to gain?

EDIT: @flojo .... mmmkey .... ditching Ulala for Parappa .... "I felt a great disturbance in the Force"

Unless your house is hermetically sealed and built like a tank/submarine, it is no match for a hurricane. Storm windows do a lot of ggreat nothing when a tree or other debris comes fylying towards your wall at 100+ mph. Your house might survive 150mph in a wind tunnel with no projectiles, but other structures that got ripped apart will hit yours like a battering ram. Nice of the man to stick it to others so he can profit in their time of need.

Chris Cardillo keeping it klassy...

TRU just filed for bankruptcy protection : http://www.bbc.com/news/business-41316205

Edited: I initially misread the article and thought that TRU were bankrupt, but then realised that they had filed for bankruptcy protection.

They filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy -- they can reorganize and try to make things better.

While we're off topic, I found this piece about TRU's lack of diversity and inclusion an interesting read.

We have online shopping now, we have smarter toy stores, we have places like Target and Barnes and Noble with pretty good toy sections. There's something nice about the giant temple of kid stuff that was TRU. It seems old-fashioned now, like buying cartridges for video game systems such as Coleco Vision.

There, back on topic.

Also, Chris Cardillo is pretty hopeless at Spy Hunter.

TRU has been squeezed for years by a declining buyer base and increased competition from other retailers. In addition, lots of kids aren't as interested in physical toys as they are in virtual experiences, with which TRU has never been very savvy.

Combine this market reality with upper management virtually absent of imagination or creativity, and this is what you get.

TRU has never really been interested in learning much about or from their customers; they've always tried to "attract those who will buy the product they push" rather than "try to stock the product their customers desire".

TRUs idea of Customer Service always seems to end up with me standing around waiting for somebody else I'm not talking to, to do something. I always thought it was crazy to shop around and find something to buy, then be required to take a Buy Me ticket to the register, wait in line and pay, and then have to wait again at the Cage for somebody to walk around and find it again and bring it to me.

Not really any worse than waiting for an employee to open the game case at walmart. Better still if you've got produce in your cart (the electronics dept does not have scales necessary to check out vegetables) and they have to fetch someone to escort you to the front of the store with merch in hand to check you out. Ever tried to buy a bunch of grapes and a 3DS game simultaneously at 3am? Bwa-ha-ha...

Some pitchmen (without ethics) subscribe to the P.T. Barnum motto of, "There's a sucker born every minute", while being self-serving and greedy enough to justify to themselves that it's okay to exploit people and sell them crap as long as they come out ahead.

I feel so dirty and in need of a shower after reading about all the slimy things this guy does.

Man, this guy would sell his own grandmother if it meant making a dollar. Who the hell wants 10 of each of those pieces of crap??? What's next for sale, those high quality banners that they had at the "expo"?
