Rampage now available on cartridge! Works on NTSC and PAL!

Recommended Posts

Rampage was released only in the UK on disk only! And it was ONLY

available in PAL. Now, we put it on the Mega-Cart and works both on

PAL and NTSC! This is a first time NTSC release! This game is a riot

to play! The graphics are great and music is excellent!

We will be taking orders starting Wednesday, May 21st at 10:00 AM PST.

You can go to http://www.sunmark.com to preorder. The game

cartridge and instructions will be $39.95. The games will be shipped

by first week of June 2003.

And yes, we are only making 50. Each cart will be numbered and have

an electronic signature on them. If they do not all sell out, starting

June 1st the cost will be $44.95.

Sure can -- well at least in its PAL disc/cassette format...

I'd class it as a workmanlike implementation, its a single load from disc or cassette.

Its not a conversion of the standards of Atari or other companies from the heyday of the 8bit, it plays "like" the arcade game, but not a pixel perfect conversion...

The graphics are the real issue for me, rather simplistic and often dowdy color choices IMHO, especially the monochrome creatures, as can be seen from the shots above I feel. The animation of the main characters is only passable.

If you are familiar with this teams (Anthony Wilson and Russell Knight) other games you will know what to expect (see other threads here on AA about them). If you go to Mr Barcadi's site you can find all of their releases to download...

There was a patch published in one of the atari online magazines on how to make Rampage play properly on a NTSC machine. In fact I have a disk copy that runs on both using that patch. As I recall it was simple, just remove one instruction, or add an instruction, something like that.

Seems to work on Atari800Win in NTSC and PAL mode, at least for me. Should be a good indicator of quality if its just the same game put on a cartridge.

Thanks! Do you recall a similar article for Jor Blade :D That's another one of my TTD.

Interesting....This is actaully not to bad a game for the 8bit series - I can think of ALOT of other games that are worse......Make the Monster Sprites multi-color and you'd have a better than average arcade port IMHO.

Super Genius,

Since I'm not in the market for a copy of Rampage I was wondering what games did you pick from the thread here on AA where you solicited for ideas on what to package on cart??

I've dollars waiting for the right titles :)

Hi Steve,

We have quite a few in the works. The next release is going to be a 30

game multicart. Then shortly after that is Tagalon. We also have

Colosses Chess finished. I am an avid chess player so I am excited

about that.

The game Fred is also finished.

Right now I am revising the circuit board to accommodate more games.

We are also soliciting vendors to assemble the circuit boards because the

demand for this is more than we have time to assemble! I guess that is

a good thing!

We are also going to be releasing a fabulous utility cart for all the

"hackers" out there...

If you buy a replacement PAL Antic chip for your NTSC 8-bit from B&C and replace the NTSC version with it, Joe Blade and 99% of the other PAL games that had problems to start with on NTSC Atari's, will work fine. Hopefully you have an 800XL or 1200XL since the chips are socketed and it's easy to replace. An XE will PROBABLY require desoldering and soldering skills, which is why I decided to modify my 1200XL instead, even though I have the skills, it can be a pain in the butt; especially the desoldering part, but it's still worth it! Regardless of what the PAL-NTSC upgrade instructions say, you really don't need to do the OS (PAL)chip mod along with it, only about 1% of the PAL games check for which OS (PAL or NTSC) you have installed. I recently changed out the Antic chip in my 1200XL, and all the PAL games that I ever had trouble with work fine now! I have yet to come across a PAL game that does not work fine with just the ANTIC chip replacement only (and I have a ton).

What will the price be on these new carts, I held off on Rampage not just because I'm not a fan of that conversion, but $39.95 for a game that loads into RAM in one go, from disc or cassette, rather than a game that has disc access all re-routed seems rather high...

Mule was a good deal at $34.95 I felt, my disc copy is old and the game access the drive during play. Tagalon, Colossus Chess and Fred (why!?!?!?!) are also just 48 or 64 single loads too, the copys of International Karate, Preppie 1 & 2 on cart that I bought from Video 61 are the same kinds of deal as these, and were just $19.95.

I would pay your price for sophisticated games like Eidolon, Kornis Rift etc that were converted over (in fact I'll probably buy Tagalon since I like that game SO much!), but I'd like to see a bit more value in these Mega Carts...

I'd also like to see some unreleased games like Midi Maze or Commando -- since your cart is big enough, and if you did a multicart that had all the 5200 games that were hacked onto the 8bit I'd buy that!!!

Yeah, I remember you or someone else mentioning this when I did the Qb NTSC hack. I find it more fun to try to hack the game to work with both systems :D I guess it's because I understand the software more than the hardware portion.
