bmadgames
A flexible goal? You have to be kidding. Really surprised that many people want this. Hope nobody gets screwed. They have already crushed their goal. Based on what they are promising, I don't think anyone is going to be screwed. Now, we can debate all day if there is any value in what they are offering, but they aren't really promising anything too difficult to deliver on. StopDrop&Retro
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/atari-vcs-game-stream-connect-like-never-before-computers-pc#/backers If you follow the backer list the names start to repeat. I don't know if that's just the list tripping over itself or something else. Michael Washbourne has appeared 4 times on my screen in just the last minute.

So far Atari 2600 classics you can get on any Atgames Atari Flashback, Tempest 4000, and the following straight copy and paste from the Indiegogo campaign. From the Atari UI users could access to the following services: - Atari classic games - Atari and 3rd party new games - Atari VCS storefront - Streaming TV services (Netflix, Hulu, HBO GO, etc.) - Streaming music services (Pandora, Spotify, SiriusXM, etc.) - Web Browser - Customizable Curated Desktop - Gaming Communities (Homebrew) - Learning Services So basically, absolutely nothing special.
elefas
Reading the IGG comments there seem to be a problem with the transactions. So beware, some backers got charged multiple times. Maybe this is the reason of the goal crushing start?
JBerel
Sigh......So what is the alluded to perk you were supposed to get??? All I see is the opportunity to give away $200, or $300 or more for the non-existent console and maybe a controller that might ship in 14 months when they stay true to their timeline as all crowdfunding projects do. I thought there was supposed to be something else offered, but whatever, who cares. I'm just happy to know the world is a better place with so many people separated from their money who could not be trusted with it anyway. Just think of the damage they could do with that $200-$300 bucks or more.
bmadgames
By my count, a little over 3,500 consoles sold so far. I have to admit, that is more than I was expecting.

+KaeruYojimbo
they aren't really promising anything too difficult to deliver on. Which begs the question, why is it still a year away from shipping when they've already been working on the thing for over a year?
Flojomojo
I mod the sub-reddits. I've asked Atari to reach out to me to take over they haven't, so I've closed them. Discord is mine too, but I might leave that up for a bit. Yes, we know those are yours. :-) Why shut it down just when things are taking off? Random observations: They smashed their goal and they can keep your money without delivering if they want The spinning "classic joystick" implies (to me) that it has a paddle/spinner built in (most likely it does NOT, since the other controller is animated in the same way) Their estimated weight of both controllers is 16oz (an Xbone controller is 9oz) ... perhaps a placeholder so they can plan for shipping fees This is very orange What the hell does this even mean? These partners are "confirmed" if you choose to believe it (remember, Tomb Raider was on the release lists for the Atari Jaguar, too) The specs match those that were "leaked" a few days ago. Not worth the asking price in my opinion, but apparently 3000 people think differently. Does anyone else see weird duplication in the backers list? I saw three "mickey mouse" entries. Could just be a display bug. Their blurb about "why crowdfunding" is pretty slick, in how it claims they'll be listening to their community. Note it does not mention "we did this to reduce financial risk to the company" as they told their shareholders. WHY LAUNCH ATARI VCS PRE-ORDERS ON A CROWDFUND PLATFORM? Atari enjoyed a market-leading and pioneering position in console, arcade and home video gaming throughout the 1980s and 1990s. What hasn’t changed and still lives on today is the enduring passion of countless gaming fans for the brand and its products. Today’s Atari is a progressive company made up of hardcore Atari fans like so many of you. The all-new Atari VCS project has been ideated, created, and developed by Atari to capture the same spirit, heritage, and DNA of the original. It is also well-funded; but we want and need to connect with new fans while having a dialog with all of you as we continue to develop this exciting new Atari device. Community is the one word that’s stayed on our whiteboard for months. You, the community, are what keeps our brand and its legendary lineup of games and hardware alive. We want to recapture the energy and transformative excitement that the original Atari 2600™ brought to life in thousands of living rooms but do it with a completely new Atari Connected Device and offer new digital entertainment experiences. This is where the Indiegogo campaign comes in. Atari VCS team seeks to work closely with the Atari fan community and gaming industry to prove to the world that the all-new Atari VCS has what it takes to go from “interesting” to “epic!” The Indiegogo partnership helps us to reach out to and connect with highly-engaged community members and is a perfect vehicle to directly involve both existing and new Atari fans. This project is a dynamic and evolving and this crowdfunding strategy will help us verify the community’s ongoing interest and support, bring new fans into the fold, and gather the feedback we need to make the Atari VCS the best gaming and entertainment device it can possibly be. The demand appears to be there. As I write this, they've now got 700% of what they were asking for. Now they need to make this thing. It's going to be fun to watch the cycle. Or maybe they're just charging everybody multiple times.

Pink
Why pay $300 when you can get a PS4 or Xbox One and either the Atari Flashback Classics Volumes 1 and 2 or an Atgames Atari Flashback? The only answer i've been provided this whole time is that this thing has an Atari logo on it and that supposedly makes it all worth it. But so does the Atgames Flashback. Edited May 30, 2018 by Pink

dj_convoy
Y'all just haters, trying to play down their success, etc. Seriously, I'm surprised at the level of demand (inflated tho' it may be). digdugnate
im pretty interested in the classic controller by its self- notsomuch in the console because it really just doesn't meet a need or want that I have. $29 is a pretty attractive price-point, assuming it materializes. TheVgaTv
If you look at what people are "buying", just about every single one of them are getting the limited edition one, with only 300 people so far getting the cheaper model. So it looks like collector speculators are rushing in to get the limited edition that will sit on a shelf never to be opened. And once that's gone there isn't going to be much interest.
