New Atari Console that Ataribox?

That's such a weird thing to do, making random clip art mashups with totally made up text pulled directly out of his own ass. What is that guy trying to accomplish? Is he really hoping somebody will love him for it, or that history will be kind to his enthusiasm? Seems like he's building a permanent monument to what a sap he is.

He's either:

a) Trying to build or expand a design portfolio to show to the easily-impressed

b) Providing a valuable public service by giving everyone a concrete example of marketing materials poorly-disguised as a magazine

Or:

c) Both of the above

And if that neo-ST keyboard and mouse are real, they look truly out-of-place next to the Ataribollocks. I'm sure that there's probably some intentional hipster irony to the design clash, but putting them all next to each other just looks like a peek into someone's box of obsolete hardware c.1995.

I went there for bizarre and surreal and was not disappointed...it's just like the good ol' Register days:

GamesBeat: Was Atari VCS contributor Rob Wyatt still working on it? I know he was going to, and then, he had a skydiving accident and broke his leg a while ago.

Chesnais: We have a very solid team diving into the project. I haven’t checked on Rob because I’ve been working on casino games. Michael Arzt, the head of Atari VCS, is really in charge of that one.

In a nutshell, though, we have very strong numbers. Games is doing well as the core of the business. Casino is starting to grow. The console, we haven’t announced any significant updates. The team will be working on something after CES to provide an update. CES is not contributing anything to the [profit and loss] at the moment. We hope it will be a strong pocket of growth for us.

This is pure corpo-think newspeak brilliance. Turn "skydiving accident" into "diving into a project", then go direct into "numbers"....what a masterstroke. Nevermind it's insanely tasteless, just like not checking on your employee who's literally fallen outta the sky, coz, you know, online casino. And nevermind it completely evades the interviewer's question.

Yeah, online casinos seem to be a big thing on Fred's mind. I gave up reading when he started raving on about their expansion plans into Africa. After all, folks there are really loaded and won't mind yet another two-bit fleecing schemer. Yuck.

Stuff like that is why I genuinely believe we have at least a couple of these corporate wannabes from Atari actively posting here from time to time under aliases. The level of clueless perceived superiority and use of cliche terms to evoke a desired perception stands out and suggests a strong motivational connection to their childish idea of their bottom line. It's also why I still believe they're playing with the "numbers" on their Indiegogo as well. Their entire M.O. is to obfuscate the truth, and generate minimal evidence to take and run with as if it suggests "great things" when any clear thinking person sees through the bullshit immediately. It's exactly the same bullshit Fergie did on his joke startups, twist any morsel of fact to wring out the most outrageous positive assumptions while having nothing to back it up. I'd call it painted rust, but that would have to have been around a while. At best it's paper matche made out of used toilet paper, but I'm sure it has strong numbers.

wow, that was five minutes of my life i'm never getting back.

i guess it fits right in line with Atari SA's philosophy- lots of pretty pictures and word salad.

Whatever that mess was, they all need to get over their hangovers. Which is why they should try an old standby:

Ok. The Atacobox wakes up after a 2018 hangover.. and stumbles into 2019 with this ...https://www.scribd.com/document/396603102/Atari-Age-Magazine-Nov-Dec-2018

Let the banter commence!

That was indeed a waste of time. How much of that was repeated from the first issue? I feel like it was the same basically because it has yet to really say anything.

I could take a picture of my PC or RPi and have more Atari things to talk about.

It's 2019, time to kick myself for not buying Atari stock when it was less than a dollar

Good news! Atari is having a new year sales event and slashing prices on their stock for 2019! Now you can buy your very own shares of Atari stock for pennies on the dollar. Just look for the stock trading under the name of the game they illegally copied from Magnavox and which they sue others for resembling. Get it now before it's worthless!

I didn't read all the verbiage, but they seem to have a very good, well paid graphic designer at the helm. Maybe show some evidence you have competent hardware/software engineers? It's like reading a brochure of production apps which you can never afford, only they are all free.

Personally, I think it looks horrible. Then again, I generally dislike '70s aesthetics, and they're certainly going overboard on those.

It also really needs an editor who isn't also the graphic designer, layout artist, copywriter, and publisher, though. And some serious fact-checking of the articles prior to publication.

My understanding was that this rah-rah rag wasn't officially sanctioned by Atari SA. I'm sure they love the unquestioning devotion it shows, however.

You're flattering him. He's doing this for free, and IMHO he's not particularly good. Nearly every image he's used has been stolen from elsewhere. If you take a moment to read the text, it's descriptions of free Linux software, not anything that is guaranteed to run on "ataribox" if/when the thing comes out.

If you didn't bother to read the text, that's just as well, because you're not missing much. I think the best approach is to deny him the attention he is seeking.

Seemed more like buy linux, while trying to mask it as the Atacobox. In his defense it is hard to write about nothing.

With all the bullshit fred cheesehead has been pulling lately, I've been worrying in the back of my head about him sending Albert a C&D about using the name Atari Age. You know cheesehead has thought about this.
