New Atari Console that Ataribox?

my daughter listened to the 'It's Raining Tacos' song non stop for like two months, lol

Was it just me who expected it to be based on Raining Blood by Slayer before listening? ;-)

Anyway, it's good to see that despite me taking a month or so off, Atari have literally no more progress to show.

Hoooo boy, you guys are going to have a field day when you see "Update #10". Lol.

Yeah, all that free swag those three winners got is a drop in the bucket to the millions they stole. Still no actual update on console development. Have they even started? Or are they living high on the hog??? :ponder:

The update literally had nothing to do with the VCS whatsoever. They posted a link to a video about the Tesla-Atari partnership.

I also got a notification about the update in my email, and I clicked the "I'd like more information" button under the "Indiegogo Update Feedback" section.

H'ooooh boy, you guys are going to have a field day when you see "Update #10". Lol.

Heh. Atari. So much more than real information.

Now, let's talk about the Atari VCS team and CES...

We want to report that VCS system architect Rob Wyatt is fully recovered from his accident and has been for some time. The team has been full speed ahead after the holiday, and we will have more updates from Rob and the rest of the VCS team very soon!

We had a great time at CES 2019 (Consumer Electronics Show), the post-holiday gathering of nearly 200,000 tech and consumer electronics brands, manufacturers, inventors, exhibitors, retailers, media, and industry professionals that descend on Las Vegas annually. CES and the subsequent weeks have certainly been eventful for the Atari VCS team. Industry interest in the VCS is at an all-time high, and there has been a lot of excitement and progress surrounding content, distribution plans and many other aspects of the VCS ecosystem. We are building something special here, and other companies are taking note!

Much more to come; we know this update is a bit shorter than our typical Medium.com developer entries. No promises yet, but if things settle-in like we think they will, our next update will more than make up for it!

Ahh, the courtship of the developers, and interest from distributors. In a few months, maybe we'll get something more like this, and this, and if we're lucky, some "keep the faith" or "simple as that" in the interim.

How many times should the Phelans, Holgers, and Maxes of the world keep on believing that the check is in the mail?

Assuming that the Ataribollocks ever does come to fruition, it might end up being the most hipster-meta retrogaming in-joke ever. Think of it this way: it's 2019 now, and Atari SA was "developing" a hardware platform based on a reference board from 2016 with 2014-era hardware on it to build it on. By the time it actually launches*, it might just be retro simply due to old age. It's like an ironic speakerhat, only minus the speakers.

* Don't hold your breath.

"companies are taking note"...... yeah...... that's like the equivalent of applying for a job, then the employer emails you saying "Your application is being reviewed." > ->;;

I took note of a dog turd on the sidewalk this afternoon. However, instead of giving it money, I stepped around it and promptly put it out of my mind.

The parallels with the Ataribollocks are astounding. Astounding, I say.

From the "Atari just doesn't get it" Department,

Screenshot showing middling reviews for RollerCoaster Tycoon Adventures on Metacritic. 54 is not a good score, regardless of how many times it's been shared.

Atari. So much more than well-reviewed video games.

For a little context, here are the first 3 pages of the list, starting with the "most shared" and working down. Talk about damning with faint praise. Also take note of the scores on the other games.

We well know the outcome of those famous last words, which were likely uttered just before that historical "titanic" blunder !

ROTFL. Can't believe he just posted/boasted a pic of a "yellow" fifty-ish Meta score. This guy... :)

Fun bonus is the 1st tweet below, with ominously sounding "...and good night to the #Atari gaming community*." Well, the sooner the better....

*not to be mistaken with the real Atari gaming community

Probably the same way they "attended" GDC. From across the street in a cheap hotel.

Cheap Motel you say? Usually you find on site an abundance of $5 and $3 Hookers...?

*Disclaimer

From rumors, Futurama and Google images, I personally cannot attest to this :D

So it seems the breaking point for these guys wasn't laying down $300 with nothing to show for it, or showing a solid block of plastic, or getting caught lying about how they answered questions to the media, or lying about it playing Tempest 2000, or being functional at all, or having to change everything about the look of it, or having nothing to report on games for it, or even 6 months of being dicked with by way of nothing-burger updates. The breaking point was the Superbowl with no AtariVCS ad. LOL.

Yeah at this point I’ve lost basically all hope in this product. It’s really sad since the idea behind it was really promising. Was really hoping for a pretty and functional Linux Set Top Box.
Every update just adds to the feeling that they’re stringing us along on promises with nothing to show. If they do have a legitimate product that they’re building then their PR side definitely needs some work :/ oh well
