which reminds me of the story, maybe an urban legend, about how the US government mandated adding labels to Superman capes that say

"Warning: Cape Does Not Enable You to Fly."

Maybe it wasn't just the cape, maybe kids just emulated the character. I know of at least one Superman-related death (New York Times, February 12, 1979)

Maybe old brands should come with a warning, too. What do you think they should say?

Warning: Do Not Use to Fleece Impressionable Nostalgic Nerds

Or maybe the would-be backers need a warning, too

Warning: Use Your Brain For Five Fscking Seconds and Don't Be A Pigeon

With no response or deletions... maybe the PR person got fed up and quit.

Well, we know that Atari SA has read this thread in the past. It's possible that someone with them realised that what didn't work for Stalin also wasn't going to work for them after reading the more recent comments here.

Or they just got lazy / couldn't afford to hire someone else on fiverr to handle the discontented posts / gave up in a final act of arrogance after realising that no matter how much people may complain, they still had $3M in their back pocket.

I guess that was the excitement for the day.

btw Any news on that lawsuit with Feargal?

I want to root for him in this lawsuit but not sure if a lesser of two evils thing is really best.

So far, an extension of time to complete Discovery was extended until April 9. After that, tough tacos.

Trust me, if nothing gets delivered on this thing, I'll never use Indiegogo again, and I'll be sure to spread negative word-of-mouth about it on Facebook, around my circle of friends, etc.

I also won't buy any new merchandise Atari makes, even if some major buyout occurred in the future. Both brands will be on my blacklist. That's how much it will turn me against them.

I think you've got something mixed up. Trust people, not names. A name is merely a collection of sounds; a person has a reputation.

If Atari is bought out they'll have different people at the helm; you'd have to judge the brand based on it's new owners' behavior, not on previous owners' behavior. That's why we're in this mess; too many people thinking of the old Atari w/o considering who's in control.

Nope. IGG provides the platform which in itself is a good honest platform. Fraudulent companies abuse the platform and ignorant people who don't do research enable the fraud.

God dammit, FLOJO, please help .. i've lost my dry i don't give a fuck humor .. bring me back bro :)

I don't agree with that mindset honestly...

Obviously it's still early to blame Atari for not delivering (like Flojo said), but in the case that they DON'T deliver, I blame both Indiegogo and Atari.

I will also say that I've learned a lesson-- and that is to disregard both brands completely. But it is ultimately their wrongdoings and they should be disciplined. No background research should be necessary if you're a "good and honest" platform and/or company.

That's why I'm $300 richer than you :)

YES!!! I'm back bitches!!!

I haven't used Indiegogo, but I think it's probably fine for crowdfunding. It just doesn't have that extra requirement of a prototype that Kickstarter has and seems to attract more unscrupulous characters. I do think IGG has a problem with allowing webstore-like language on their platform, such as "pre-order" (such as in the below screencaps). Although, I guess it could be argued that Atari is responsible for the language and IGG just didn't police the phrasing. Of course, none of this absolves anyone of doing his or her own due diligence in research or understanding risks.

Lon recommends this $314 Indiegogo GPD mini-PC because of testing the prototype and because they have a good track record:

Great Scott!!

I just stopped back from the future to give you the terrible news about the Atari VCS lawsuit.

Something's gotta be done about you pigeons! If something isn't done, this will turn into an awful, awful, awful mess.......

State of Denial }
} SS
City of San Francisco }

California Circuit Court

Taco Bell District

(City of San Francisco)

State of Denial, }

Plaintiffs, } No. 1:18-taco-07340

vs. } } Division No. 3 & 3/4
Atari Cheesebox LLC }
}
Defendant. }

FINDINGS AND VERDICT

Defendant, a paper entity created for the sole purpose of bilking funds from hapless pigeons, at the time of events at issue here, has been charged with first degree fraud by intent to deceive for conducting a criminal action of running a crowd funded scam for which defendant was completely incapable of.

The Court has closely examined the evidence, has viewed the defendants exhibits multiple times, has reviewed the testimony of the witnesses, and has considered the arguments of the parties.

In reaching a decision in this case, the Court is bound by the code of judicial conduct which requires that judges decide cases according to the law and facts. However, in this case, all parties have behaved in such deplorable ways with malice, willful ignorance, and abject disregard for intelligence that the Court has no choice but to rule as follows:

VERDICT

All our lives hang by a thread. Now we got a bunch of dorks waiting for sentence. But ain't it the truth? You take your chances with the law. Justice is only a roll of the dice. A flip of the coin. A turn... of the Wheel. You think I don't know the law? Huh? Wasn't it me who wrote it? And I say these dumb asses have broken the law. Right or wrong, they had a deal. And the law says, "Bust a deal and face the Wheel!"

And now, I've got two groups of morons — pigeons and crooks with guts full of fear. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, dying time's here! Remember where you are. This is Thunderdome. Death is listening, and will take the first man that screams.
A bunch of dorks enter; no one leaves!

Now people on the indiegogo campaign that haven't even commented before are saying something and asking for updates. o w o

Kinda disproves James Joseph Sulivan's theory that I have a "clan" of people that want updates. It's basically everyone. They're just now reaching out because they probably backed the campaign and forgot about it until just now. XP

Be warned: "It's just a small group of haters ruining our project" is a favorite line of these scammers.

Simple as that.
