New Atari Console that Ataribox?

You know (or should know) about 'The Fun is Back' campaign as a rap back then.

Anyone remember in Wayne's World when Noah Vanderhoff of Noah's Arcade does an awful rap of his business?

Fred Chesnais says he wants to "make Atari cool again." Why do I have this weird feeling that Chesnais may try to have some old school rap song made up that may be cringeworthy?

I'm a long-time Apple Watch user too. It's amazing how brick-like the present iteration of the Gameband looks. I suppose that's understandable to a degree because of the onboard microSD card and Type-C slots, but it definitely limits who might be interested in such a thing.

Totally unrelated to your post and my apologies if you already answered (I've been out of this for a while) but did you ever had the chance to tell us what was the intended concept for the AtariBox?

I vaguely recollect you mentioning you had access to early concepts and thinking it may not be as interesting to this audience but I am not sure if you ever elaborated on what that was supposed to be?

Obviously if you are under NDA or if ill consequences may come your way for sharing what you know (however out of date it may be) feel free to ignore the request.

Isn't a USB-C connection USB-C on both ends??? Their own gif shows a USB-C or mini USB at the watch end, and a regular USB on the computer side??? What's with all the talk (when they were talkin) about problems with the USB-C connection??

Well, cable exists for all sorts of combos and adapter to help out...

But there isn't much of a reason really to use USB C unless there is a need to use it's throughput. How much was this game band supposed to be again? Using USB C would be unnecessary and would just add to the cost.

I believe they plan to make it so you can run games from the device so the speed might actually be a factor. Additionally the C standard isndesgined to be future proof

"Nice" smart watches I have owned used wireless radios for data transmission, and magnets/induction for charging. Old smart phones I have used relied on mini or micro USB for charging, which always felt like a weak point. USB C is a nice slider that doesn't have obvious pins standing out, but it's a gaping hole that you'd want to cap on a wearable. I can't see why USB C speeds would be necessary to play things like Minecraft and Terraria, which run on things like a $30 Kindle Fire -- except those have usable screens.

In my experience, USB C isn't all that it should be, especially on $3000 Apple computers that really should "just work." This (not my writing) expresses how I feel about USB C. https://marco.org/2017/10/14/impossible-dream-of-usb-c... the only place it's performed well for me in every setting is on my Nintendo Switch.

You guys are raising an interesting (to me) philosophical question. What's worse? Not releasing GameBand at all, or releasing a garbage product that satisfies no one? The backers are screwed either way, but if they actually send something out, even if it's crap, the development crew gets to claim they successfully delivered something.

I don't see much difference between GameBand and this stuff: https://www.aliexpress.com/category/200010206/smart-watches.html

That is not a typo, that is covfefe.

You do know that there are other threads on AA, right?

Like this http://atariage.com/forums/topic/274436-gameband-updates

As I said, I'm a backer. I'm aware of the updates.

Honestly, I barely visit anymore.

While I helped with AtariBox I did my best to connect AtariAge with that project. I reached out to everyone interested and even connected with Albert in an effort to try and get the homebrews available on the console, with his help.

I'm fully aware that some were not that interested in the project or my presence here. But I tried to be here for those that were. With AtariBox doing whatever it is currently doing sans me, there isn't much for me here

The 2600 collection I had, I donated to Freg and his 2600 game by game podcast. Sent him everything Atari I owned. I truly support his efforts as he is doing far more to preserve the 2600's history than I was.

I know I don't seem like a brother here, but I still feel a kinship here despite some of the ways I've been treated.

So, since there are already Chinese import smart watches with SD cards, Bluetooth, SIM card support, GPS, fitness sensors and such, it would seem like the Qualcomm processor is the only difference. That may not even be true, but I haven't looked at other models.

Is there some actual need for the particular processor they claim makes their watch better? Will anything that this thing runs actually be 64 bit? Given, ya know, it's a watch, and it lacks a lot of the typical features of other smart watches, is there something that will even use the processor to any degree? Are PacMan and pong really that processor intensive? I don't get it, but I always thought any of the smart watches on the market were about as cool as the speakerhat.

P.S. I'm cool with the Historian's contribution to these boards. The only time it got annoying was when he was teasing Ataribox insider info he couldn't or wouldn't shed more light on. Otherwise I appreciate his subject matter knowledge like most, and his endurance being used as a punching bag at times. Who among us hasn't annoyed the sh#t out of the rest of us at one time or another??
