Trebor
There is some very exciting news to be shared. TomSon has already developed a 2600 Flash Multi-Cart and is now working on one for the 7800. RevEng has been assisting by programming the menu for the 7800 version, and it looks absolutely fantastic. Up to 40 character across for each file name. It will auto detect and support 2600 and 7800 ROMs for both NTSC and PAL! Already a lot of work has been done, but still much to accomplish. It has only been mentioned under the 2600 Programming forum. So, between the forum and thread name it's under, many probably do not know anything about this yet...It is indeed some outstanding news and thought it deserves a post here as heads-up at the very least. TomSon has done phenomenal work so far and is geared up to get this done as his next project! Posting some pictures here, but go check the thread for all the details.
Shawn
He wasn't really interested in selling the 2600 version if I read correctly. Is he going to be more open to selling this 7800 enabled version? I sure hope so.
+DrVenkman
Is this the same fellow ("Sebastian") who mentioned he's working on a 7800 flashcart on the 7800 Facebook group a couple weeks ago? https://www.facebook.com/groups/7800ProSystemGamers/permalink/1534395816579422/

This is Thomas, of VecFever fame...
+DrVenkman
Well, wow. Color me impressed then - what are the odds of two active 7800 flashcart development projects in work at the same time. Does anyone know if Tiara can emulate POKEY or support a real one?
RevEng
Well, wow. Color me impressed then - what are the odds of two active 7800 flashcart development projects in work at the same time. Does anyone know if Tiara can emulate POKEY or support a real one? I'm going to be the one answering, because Thomas is swamped with real-life stuff for a little bit, and he's probably going to be less public during the engineering phase. I'll also be a bit long-winded to give you some background, and maybe head-off some other questions. First off, it's still very early days with the development - right now the current design is actually still the 2600 Tiara design. The on-cart processor detects the console type (2600 or 7800) and region (PAL or NTSC) and displays either the 2600 or 7800 menu accordingly. The 7800 Tiara menu can presently launch 2600 or 7800 test bins. I call them test bins, because the >4k address lines still need to be added in, handling for A78 format, etc. My involvement has been to give Thomas a leg-up on the 7800 by providing him some character-buffer code (the actual menu is all his, and he's modified my original code quite a bit already.) I've also tried to give him requirements to keep in his head as he designs; A POKEY that can relocate to the homebrew and commercial address locations is one such requirement. I think it's quite likely the cart will have a socket for POKEY, but I can't speak for Thomas here, and it's too-early to nail down the features. I'm pretty sure the on-cart processor doesn't have processor cycles for providing emulated ROM and emulating a POKEY. Likely the cart will be sold without a case (like VecFever, and many other flash carts) but I expect that's not a problem for anybody.

+groundtrooper
I will take any flash cart that comes out. I have a Mateos right now, I am getting by with it, but Tiara or Concerto would be the ultimate upgrade. 8 or 16 games at a time are just not enough. And cumbersome. I will be keeping an eye on this one. Thanks for sharing Trebor.

Wow...so that means there's 3 7800 SD solutions being developed currently... And SainT may be jumping into the fray too.
CPUWIZ
How much is that POKEY replacement? $100+? I think Mitch mentioned something like that. Plus, can it do interrupts & SIO?
+DrVenkman
Plus, can it do interrupts & SIO? Dumb question but I honestly don't know the answer: are interrupts and SIO functionality necessary for 7800 audio?
mattsoft
Seeing how I JUST picked up a 7800 to get back into this console, this is GREAT news! Wahoo! Edited June 26, 2017 by mattsoft

+DrVenkman
want one!!!!!!!! Wouldn’t we all. But this thread is over a year old, as is the thread Trebor links in the first post. I’m guessing this is - like all 7800 flash carts - apparently dead in the water.

+DrVenkman
What did come of this project anyhow? As far as I can tell, nothing worth writing about since the last posts in both threads - until yesterday in this one, anyway - was over a year ago.
