Sonofabitch might be right!   I mean Joysticks Do go in the back of a VCS....hmmmmm...

No engineering textbook ever written has ever contained the phrase Designed as well as an Atari 2600.

Was there a system that put them in differently before Atari 2600? That means the other systems messed up. :P

Hm. The Channel F slots in cartridges horizontally with the label facing upwards. The RCA Studio II inserts cartridges vertically with the title label facing away from the player, but with game instructions on the back side. Now I doubt that Atari sourced inspiration neither from Fairchild nor RCA when they designed the VCS, other than glancing what others in the market were doing before releasing their own system.

So what you're saying is we need people like us to be writing textbooks, which will contain that phrase?   Because I think you might be onto something  :)

Great. The cartridge problem was bad enough. Now we have to worry about "old timers" trying to plug their joysticks into the HDMI out of the Retron 77. :)

Well, they should put the HDMI inside the case like a real VCS.

The Retron 77 should support 7.1 sound. And all the speakers will be built into the console.

I think it should support Real Hardware, FPGA, and Emulation. Selectable by an old-school rotary switch. In addition it should have a keyboard connector, a built-in Harmony, and a built-in supercharger. With an X86 supervisory computer to oversee it all.

It would be sublime if someone would make a heavy, solid VCS with controls worthy of a feature on http://knobfeel.tumblr.com/

One knob on that Marantz costs more to make than a Retron 77.

I have the cart label thing figured.  Just put the cart port on the end of a cable.  Then on the console just put a holder cup.  That way, the user can plug the cart in and set it any way they choose (label facing, away, upside down, right side up, sideways, on the table, etc.).

It should be on the end of a rainbow ribbon cable. :)

LOL. Buy 2 of them to make a versatile Etch-Sketch device for your PC. Do you guys think these would make a good mod candidate for custom Atari paddles?

Yeah, make it really flimsy so you have to buy replacements. :lolblue:

Replacements?  You just have to buy a new unit.  Increases sales that way.

Throwaway-and-replace is an aliean concept to retrogamers.

Hi All,

Small update - project isn't dead.

Working on UI adjustments

we are anticipating a mid/end q2 launch.

Several people have reached out for dev testing - we will be notifying those people shortly for NDA/Kit shipment.

Yeah, it would be cool to participate in testing this if it is still going to be made.

First of all, if Retron 77 is coming out, it should have all the switches, controller support, and cartridge support as the original 6-switcher. Anything less is going to draw negative criticism and reduce functionality.

I am not sure if I get this... how do we know if this person (cgallizzi) has anything to do with the Retron 77 or Hyperkin?

Well, I was just at the Hyperkin Facebook page and there was a similar post there...so I would tend to believe it.

I just remembered a FB chat that I had with them some time ago. They complained about cartridge ports and I suggested them a cheap part.

Maybe I helped create the idea in a way. :P
