I was thinking about stuff I wish I could buy, and then became curious to know what was on other people's wish lists:

For me, I wish I could buy the following:

  1. Nice reproductions of Atari prototype games. I like Polo, for example. A cart with a nice vintage style box would thrill me to no end. Same for Aquaventure. Nice cart, nice label, nice box. Combat II, too :)
  2. Combat with a challenging A.I.
  3. The Atari equivalent of the Analogue NT. Nothing budget about it. Something luxurious, made with care & expensive materials. I don't play any other console, so it wouldn't be an expensive outlay for me.
  4. A CX-40 Steam controller.
  5. Boxes for homebrews that never had boxes.
  6. I loved Adventure II. My kingdom for an Adventure III with expanded game play. Make the world even bigger!
  7. Some kind of new bookcase insert for cartridge storage.
  8. Swordquest Airworld, but have it actually be good!!!
  9. A 2600 programming guide for idiots. A book in print format, written by Andrew Davie & Thomas Jentzsch.

I'm sure I'll have more to add later. What about you folks?

An addition:

I wish Spiceware games came out in the 80's. My youth would have been that much better. Asteroids is great, but Space Rocks is transcendent. If he can pull off Draconian, imagine what Pac Man would have looked like.

You hit my wants with 3 and 7 on your list.  My one requirement for an Atari Analogue NT would be that it plays both 2600 and 7800 games.  (5200 would be nice as well).

A game with meaningful progress that you could play for a long time, that saved your work along the way. Yeah, I'm asking for iterative endless runners like Temple Run on VCS. That way, not everything is a self-contained high score contest.

I lusted over pictures of The Graduate and its chiclet keyboard until I finally managed to get a real computer (a 1200XL).

I would love to see for the 2600:

1. An arcade port of Tron.  The one with four different games (i.e. light cycles, tanks, cone, spiders).

2. Galaga.

3. Better sports games - comparable to the Intellivision.

2600 Tempest, Choplifter, Zookeeper, and Qix having been released in 1984 with the proper shiny reflective silver foil labels they deserved.
...so excuse me while I go cry myself to sleep now...

Space Rocks and Draconian both rely on hardware that didn't exist in the 80s.

I can make a version of number 9 happen. I am currently in the process of learning how to program 2600 games, and I have a big collection of introductory material collected from my efforts. It is not really necessary to write a new book because all the material you need to learn how to code in machine language is already online. I may make a big master list of forum posts and web links to make navigating easier.

1. Affordable cart shells, for Albert, In multiple color choices.

2. Combat, with a decent A.I. opponent

3. Arcade version of Tron for the 2600 :-o

There are countless things I could imagine, but these were already mentioned and I felt adding them to my list might help make them a reality. :P

None of these are really out of reach to the right people. Someone with the money to have molds made could tackle the cart shell issue and I know some of the gifted programmers here could give Combat a working A.I. or code a nice version of the Tron Arcade game. ;)

Zooookeeeeeper. what ever happened to that guy who was teasing he found the proto? Double yes on the silver labels, i wish more homebrews followed "traditional" atari styles, red label, silver label etc.
