It couldn't happen to a nicer guy who put so much hard work, care, and kindness into that fan project and seeing it not only through completion, but showing some brass to even toss out a bug fix despite the first halfassed up shut down notice that didn't directly get sent his way. He's dedicated and gets things done, for the industry to ignore that kind of determination and talent would be an insulting kick in the teeth. I still don't blame Nintendo for doing it, they own that IP and it's active, plus well now we know things (the 3DS remaster) so it kind of all fits. Happy ending as it is, good for him.
