Looking For Gameboy Player for the Gamecube

What I ended up doing last month was to buy "SD media launcher" for ~$15 from the Datel website, and then run the Gameboy Reloaded software, which has many new features as well. This is not an emulator, it enhances the existing Gameboy Player hardware.

Was just going to post this. It's a much better alternative to the pricey boot discs, especially since the thing towmater posted lets you run games in 240p with cleaner visuals than the GBP disc.

You can either use an SD Media Launcher (which I think ships from the UK? not sure), or you can use a WiiKey or SD Gecko and the Action Replay which is basically what the SD Media Launcher is: an SD Gecko and AR packaged in a fancy way.

What I did was mod a Wii (I have plenty), install GCMM, use that software to install an exploit on a memory card, then pop in a game vulnerable to the exploit. Load the save on your memory card and you're in business. First I used Smash Bros., but then I switched to Agent Under Fire to reduce wear and tear on what's become a very valuable disc.

What's nice about this method is that it'll fit on even the smallest GameCube memory cards. 59 blocks actually translates to 512K, roughly one third the size of a floppy disc. That ain't much, but Game Boy Interface and the exploit WILL fit on it.

Wait, I'm feeling dumb here. I cannot really figure out what that GameBoy reloaded thing is. Is it an emulator that rips and runs the ROMs off of the cartridges? Or is it some sort of better software than the default Nintendo code that runs the GBA games?

So you can use like an Action Replay or that odd SD memory card adaptor thing instead of using the GameBoy Player disc? That's the gist of what I'm getting?

  • 1 year later...

Old thread and sorry I didn't mean to take it over...

I know but, running into the same thing. I want to add a Gameboy player to my Gamecube but, I refuse to pay $80+ for a CD. A xeno GC boad is like $4-12 (v1 or 2.0) and a ISO (thtat I need to find), or spend $80 on a disk before the $10 part.

Is a Mod with a ISO the most affordable way to do this, or is there a way to get the disc for like $20 someplace ?
