Cousin Vinnie
I have finally rocked this game, beat it and almost repeated it. I would have too, but the first time I encountered the mines I couldn't see them on my TV.... and died like 4 times in a row ANYWAYS I have played this dozens of times for years and years............. and I have never seen an 8 in the Failsafe code. Come to think of it... I don't remember a 3 or a 9, either... but definitely.... no 8. Am I nuts? Or has the number 8 (and 3 and 9) been left out for a reason? So Bob.... why the hate on number 8? Trebor
According to Bob's post, 0-9 and A-F are utilized as possibilities for the code. Perhaps a coincidence you've never seen an 8.

PacManPlus
... I found that 0-9 & A-F was too difficult to give a fighting chance if you weren't given many clues along the way, so late in the game's development I changed it to 0-7 for each digit.

Inky
This is a tough game. I've tried to beat it, got pretty far in, then lost, of course.
Trebor
My best approach to FailSafe is seeing it as 'strategy-action' rather than 'action-strategy' game. There needs to be a lot of 'laying-back' and a slow careful approach to many of the areas, or else I find myself blown to bits pretty quickly. It is tempting when the "Speed" package is obtained to just zip through the level, and it's great for the rough terrain, but I found it best to be overly conservative when in possession of it. *EDIT: Looking over the manual and sure enough, similar to the above, the following is mentioned under the "Strategy" section:
Lord Thag
Yeah, this is one of the unsung gems of the 7800 homebrew library. I really need to sit down and beat it like I did Crystal Quest.
