Sylvania

My understanding is that the Mattel Intellivisions made in the United States in 1980, before manufacturing moved to Hong Kong, were made by GTE Sylvania. They are identical to most of the early Mattel Intellivisions made in the United States other than the labels. I also heard in one of the Intellivisionairies interviews that the very first Mattel Intellivisions in 1979 were manufactured by Magnavox.

edit:

You can compare your serial numbers to others here. http://intellivisionrevolution.com/serial-number-database-gte-sylvania

Photos of your Intellivision and box are always welcome.

The GTE Sylvania Intellivisions seem pretty rare. If I were to guess how many were made I might say 20k.

Yeah - the early units were manufactured by GTE Sylvania.

What kind of info are you looking for? These are pretty cool units from a variant standpoint in that they're from the earliest production runs. The faceplate and box variants look nice, and the mentions of the original Keyboard Component really take you back to some fond memories.

I've got a Sylvania. It was actually my first Intellivision. :) There isn't much difference from the standard Mattel Electronics consoles apart from the labeling (of course), and IMO the metal face panels look slightly more silver/gray than the Mattel's, which look a little more gold.

My Sylvania's box was printed as saying it was packed with NFL Football, with a correction sticker advertising that the unit actually in fact included Las Vegas Poker & Blackjack. And the blurb about the Keyboard Component is a neat touch as well. :)

Thank you guys for all the info,I was trying to post pictures for you guys, but it looks like I can't do it with a cell phone,it was pretty much an impulse buy since i dont collect for the system, but I just found it unusual.money is tight so if it is worth considerably more than what I paid ($50) maybe sell but i have never sold anything that i dont have a double of so that most likely won't happen.haha

Not me (I'd never sell mine), although I'm jealous of the condition of the box and manual. My box is in pretty rough shape, and I don't have the manual. :(

First thing I notice on the Sylvania box is the red sidelines in NFL football.......must be a concept drawing I presume.

Probably a mock-up screen shot but NFL Football did have magenta sidelines at one time. Checkout this 1979 video at about the 3:30 mark. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ppYK29cHygQ [Looks like the scrolling isnt quite right in that version.]

I wonder what the concept was for the Space Battle mock-up screen shot.

Edit:

Regarding ebay, could be me but a high price ususally discourages me from making an offer at all; not wanting to insult the seller.

If the seller really wants only a high price, then he shouldn't have "make offer" as an option.

Otherwise he opens himself up to low-ball offers, and your reasonable offer shouldn't be insulting.

You can always add a note in the offer "not to be insulting, but this is a fair offer"

I'm really kicking myself in the butt for not having picked up one of these that I think still had the box with it in decent shape that had a $19 BIN a few months back...ugh. I think the Sylvania model is the only major Intelly console variant I'm missing.
