This is what's wrong with some homebrew

Look, I get that games can sometimes be frustrating, but so can life. It's amazing that after all the drama over not finding an easter egg, you still manage to throw it into this thread. I honestly feel bad for you, so I don't want to sound rude. The fact is, if video games really stress you out so bad, you NEED to stop playing them. I'm saying this out of concern for your health. It's clear that you get extremely worked up over very insignificant things, which puts a VERY real strain on your heart, among other things. I know it's been suggested already, but I think you should consider seeking some help from a support group or possibly seeing a mental health professional. There's no shame in admitting you have a problem and it's the first step to finding a solution. I know you feel like other members here are being jerks, but after months of complaining about something, people tend to get tired of hearing about it. It doesn't mean that these people are jerks, it just means they have been pushed to their limit. They are feeling the same type of frustration as you seem to get from gaming. Almost every forum member who has replied to your threads, offered advice, because they wanted to help. Time after time, their advice was ignored. If you can't accept help from the people willing to give it, then there's no use in posting complaints. People come here to talk about something they enjoy, with people who have similar interests, not to read countless complaints about a game being too hard or not being able to find an easter egg. I hope you can take this as constructive criticism or helpful advice and not as an insult. You have made some rather good contributions to the community here, but they are being overshadowed by the negativity you've been bringing here lately.

Then I respectfully suggest that gaming probably isn't a good outlet for your feelings. Look, many games are meant to 'tweak' you, to try again and play harder. But if you are easily agitated, then again, perhaps gaming isn't for you.

When I was much younger, I remember getting mad at games. At one point I even punched the CRT monitor. A huge chunk of glass vs. my fist. Which one do you think won that contest? :) I've learned over the years to just not care about things so much (through hard experience). Yes, I understand this is easier said than done, but if you don't do it, you will die an early death. Take it from someone who knows.

No game, no job and no other person is worth getting so worked up that you have health issues from it. Nothing is worth that. Learn to say the three magic words I always use now: I don't care.

I was going to make a meat and Borden joke, but this late in the day, everything seems like a hilarious good idea. Best to go to bed instead.

Truer words have never been spoken...

I get meat boredom when I watch too many naughty videos in a row. There's only so much your meat can take.

...except maybe for these. :ponder:

If you don't like a homebrew, you can always write your own ;)

I don't know how and people would complain about the low diffculty or play mechanics I won't use or no easter eggs. I just had game 2 of epic adventure become unwinable because when I was taking the chalice out of the cave the blue guy spawned right by the exit and killed. when I returned the wizard was right by the door with the nechlace ,chalice , and sword stuck in that room rendering the game unwinable. Killing that blue guy is a pain when he speeds up cause I drop the sword and lure him into running into it and try to get him to hit it again. I am sorry about complaining about homebrew. When I bought haunted adventure trilogy it was because I like adventure clones. How do you think I felt when the picture rolled on my Element electronic flat screen I got for Chirstmas and when Attwong wouldn't even try to fix it. I felt insulted like I wasted my money. At that time most people who bought the game were trying to find the easter egg. Once I got my current TV and was able to play it and found that hidden area in game 3 shaped like the original Haunted House map I thought everyone would get out there copies and search that area to find the easter egg. No one did. I was trying to encourage everyone to try to find it again by searching that area but no one cared or tried. I feel pressured to find this thing cause I feel like no else is even trying and Attwong won't give me anymore clues. Am I supposed to believe all the other copies of Haunted Adventure Trilogy are just sitting around collecting dust after their owners beat all seven games? I didn't ask for an ultimate easter egg and no one else here but attwong did. I feel it overshadows the gameplay. I really don't want to know if a game has easter eggs unless somebody finds them. I remember finding the dot in the black castle of Adventure and thinking it was glitch cause I couldn't see it on the TV until my uncle said something about a hidden object in the black castle that revealed a hidden message. I fear the longer the contest goes long the more likely the ultimate easter egg will be found by a rom hacker. How would anyone know if someone bought an unnumbered copy from the atariage store and claimed the found it wouldn't have dumped it first and looked through the graphics to find it. You wouldn't know.

I dont know what that pile of word vomit says, I refuse to read it

I do know with the ludum dare games I have made, as shit as they are, over the years, that a simple AH HA! mechanic I have played 1000 times in the last 3 hours is totally lost on someone that is experiencing it the first time

which goes back to my previous post, maybe you just suck at games

the way to not suck at games is keep your damn brain in your head and not your ass, and keep trying, and quit your bitchin, its really tiresome

If you ever used BASIC, you could make batari Basic games just for yourself. Nobody would know about them unless you blab.

I like homebrews, maybe some are very hard, but then so are many original games. I am older and like a more peaceful pace in games, but I still like Atari too. One thing I love about homebrew is they tend to be well refined and troubleshot by the time they release. They're often well thought out, beautiful, and have great sound/music. I have a lot of respect to the home brewers too. They don't get paid much, if anything for their work. They just do it for the love of doing it and it shows. Not everybody can program, not everybody can design a game either, but largely the community works together so people of different skills can get together to make some great things.

How would you feel if you bought a homebrew atari 2600 game and the picture rolled on your HD TV? That's the worst thing that happened to me with homebrew.

I'd be pretty bummed. Then I would try to find out if anyone else was having the same problem and determine if the issue was the game or my TV. It's impossible to test every setting on every television.

Modern TVs are notorious for compatibility issues with older consoles. My HDTV won't work at-all with my 2600 or Sega Genesis, while my 7800 only shows up in black & white.

I haven t played many of the homebrews, but found that the ones I did play where quite enjoyable. I ve still not found a more calming or entertaining game than Go Fish! is, although I quite enjoy Activisions Fishing Derby. As far as a game not being winnable all of the time, it is irritating when the game cheats you, but I seem to remember the random level of the original Adventure wasn t always beatable. I could be wrong there, it s been a long time, but it seems that the way it randomly selected where objects where placed sometimes made it really easy or really impossible dependent upon placement. I m just happy that some of the new games have an ending, and don t just roll the score perpetually. It kinda gives you something to work for.

In days gone by I'd sometimes pick up whatever was close by and slam in on the ground, like they do in the movies with gorillas smashing things. Overhead and down, for extra speed.

Not so much nowadays. Things breaking into a hundred little flying bits can be dangerous. Back then I didn't care and I'd often double-down. If I got hit with flack I'd do it even harder.

The thing that sets me off the most is when I feel people are keeping secrets from me to upset me other the chirstmas and birthday presents being kept from me till the day. I could tell everyone what I saw in the rom dump but Attwong would probably kill me. Well I didn't see anything that pointed me towards the ultimate easter egg.

The thing that sets me off the most is when I feel people are keeping secrets from me to upset me other the Christmas and birthday presents being kept from me till the day.

How dare people hide presents to give to you on a special day! Those inconsiderate bastards! They should buy your presents on Christmas day when the stores are closed, not a month before when there are sales. Those are some F-ing evil people you're dealing with. Remember, it's them, not you. It would be silly for you to seek out professional help so they can try to help you get over it. Your hangups and assorted batshittery are the problem of everybody else. It's not up to you to get over it. It's other people who need to change. They need to bow down and treat you like royalty because that's exactly what you are. You are royalty and it's about time that other people started treating you that way. On the other hand, it would be much easier if you simply got over it and all of the other 'its' that are bouncing around in your belfry. You can get over just about anything if you really want to, but it might require the help of talented professionals combined with the willingness to stop making excuses. Every time you catch yourself being obsessive or making unreasonable demands, just say "get over it" to yourself and your kinglike feelings of entitlement will start to erode over time.

As your back recovers and the stench fades, you'll eventually adopt an attitude of gratitude. You'll be happy that you live in a place where there is electricity, water, food, indoor plumbing, and video games. You'll finally be grateful for what you have and the people in your life. You'll want to do special things to brighten the lives of other people instead of always thinking about yourself. You might even start hiding presents to give to people on special days.

At least you can play it on the portable thingamaf*ck you were talking about:
