5200 OE HSC Season 5 startup thread

Pick your poison! Nominate 2 official period releases for the 5200 and play as designed with the real stuff. The games you pick will get into the polls and we'll see what happens. :) We'll have a 7 round mini season of 1 week rounds.

This will be my last season(s) moderating. I wish to focus on some other things and welcome volunteers to take over when I'm done. PM me if seriously interested. I may still run the OE mini HSC if enough interest. :)

Pole Position Pitfall 2

Super Breakout Pacman

Missile Command Centipede

Mario Bros. Frogger II

Star Wars Arcade Death Star Battle

Gremlins

**Season will open November 26th 2017 after short break**

You certainly have been! Very sorry to see you stepping down.

It just seemed odd that as soon as I posted that, all views, votes, and even scores ceased.

Looking back, I've done it for 7 years and added the only OE HSC on here. Thing is, it's become more like something "I have to do" instead of something I want to do. I'd like to see where someone else will take us. I still have no volunteers and if none come forward, I'll pick a game a month as something for yall to play.

I'm a busy lady running a division now and in the process of moving it to TN from GA. I can't get reliable workers here and am stuck doing just about any job in the place, including the welding. I haven't been able to use my right arm much at all for the last 2 days from the strain.

I'd also like to set up something like this here for my first gaming love: C64, someday.

Yall have been mostly great and I'm not leaving, but would like to let someone else drive awhile. :)

7 years is indeed a long period of service, and with as much as you have on your plate, it's quite understandable that you'd be looking to step down. You will certainly be missed as you've been truly been doing a great job!

If no one else is truly interested, I'd be willing to step up. I've really enjoyed being a part of this regularly for years now, and I'd be willing to try running the show if that's what it takes to keep it going. I was reluctant to volunteer as I wouldn't really want to play to win as moderator. Of course, if our soon-to-be-champ Northcoastgamer sticks around (as I hope he does!) that really wouldn't be a problem. :-)

We shall see, come end of OE S-5. I might still run that annually over the holiday months Nov-Dec like usual if participation is there. I don't need mod options to be able to do that. It's just that most days, I really just go to bed, or play some old RPG's on weekends. Long drawn out games that I'm good at, actually kill me these days. Tore a muscle this week and twitch games are just not good this week.

I'd say it's pretty much a lock on this season's champ. Hopefully not a 1-and-done like some have done before. I've always thought it in good taste to defend at least once.

As for the mod not winning, it does feel funny when I do well. I limit my top play to about 5 games that I had a special love for. The rest, I mostly just did token plays and had to remind myself (make time) for even that.

There's a lot to it, selecting games for polls, trying new conversions and homebrews, testing for cheats and exploits, PMs full of bickering, and analyzing pics for possible wrong settings used. Then all the stat tracking and compiling.

You've handled that kind of thing perfectly, I feel. Nothing wrong with the mod playing along and occasionally winning a round here and there.

In the meantime, we're not done yet. So pick some damn games before I get bitchy. :P

Ok, ok... how about Missile Command and Centipede so as to spend more time with the Trak Ball and less with those awful CX-52's.

Hmmm, and I thought I was doing a decent job all these years.

Zylon,

Thanks for doing such a great job , you really took the 5200 HSC to the next level !

I can really appreciate the endless time you've spent monitoring our scores , policing the rounds , as well as the interesting ways to keep us interested with bonus point/games !

I also want to thank you for the help you have given me over the years, your help and advice is sincerely appreciated and I hope you won't be going away !

I agree, you can't be replaced Zylon and I wish you weren't stopping. I love the 5200 HSC because it is well-run and not rushed. Sometimes I don't even get around to playing a game until a week has passed and other HSC rounds would already be over or throwing in a new game. I also like the extra points you added and it made me try some hacks and games I wouldn't have without the push.

Thank you, Zylon. You've done a great job. I wish I could compete more with my limited time and break all the records :-) I nominate Centipede.

I wish I had more time also, during the past 3 seasons , it seems I have less and less time to dedicate to the HSC as well as the hobby and the board overall.

I can probably squeak an OE round in...My nomination >

GREMLINS !

If I kept running the regular HSC, I'd have to make it monthly rounds as there are many weeks where I either don't have time for a serious run at the games, or just don't feel like it. I would be fine with continuing to run our only OE challenge on AA. Perhaps I'll make that a monthly game while the regular HSC is operated by our new mod.

I kind of like that idea, as there are times I simply can't get game play in during a one or two week game.

Then again , I realize that I need to make time for gaming these days, or I find that I just don't play.

Weird, as I finally have my gaming room done and I'm not even playing much the past couple years, and have been selling stuff off.

I think I'll do that for the OE only version and have 12 monthly games. :)
