Bstar
So... I recently successfully did the McWill screen mod on my 1st gen Lynx. Tonight I decided to test out my original Lynx car adapter. Tried it out and nothing happened, no power, no noise, smell, heat, etc. Bring the Lynx inside and it no longer works on batteries. I have not used a wall outlet with my Lynx in years. What's the best way to test to see if this thing is truly dead or not? I have a voltage meter and all the replacement capacitors handy, but I'm not sure what to test to see where the failure is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Bob Edit: I can get the screen to turn on with a power supply with the correct voltage, but too low of an ampage, so the screen just lights up and fades out like the batteries are low. I'm guessing I blew one of the capacitors, but the screen seems to still be intact. Edited October 17, 2017 by Bstar

SignGuy81
This is just based of a few minutes of looking so far but if one of the windings in particular of L15 has blown open it, it won't allow the unit to power on via dc power jack or the batteries. I'm gonna look at other possibilities as well.
SignGuy81
Check for voltage between TP15 and ground and report back.
SignGuy81
If you have voltage between TP15 and the ground plane of circuit board then that inductor I mentioned earlier is good. Do these checks with batteries I forgot to mention before, not the adapter. If you don't have voltage then check voltage between(with good batteries inserted) TP15 and TP16. If you do have voltage between those points but not from ground plane to TP15 then I would say it is a good bet the inductor has an open winding. I am assuming you meant you got it to work with a bench supply(or you are using another lynx supply. Can you explain where you are hooking the supply? It sounds like something is draining the supply either case which is why batteries aren't working car adapter. Why I think you are using a bench supply now. Is anything feel hot inside when you have it on?
SignGuy81
See if U6, the 4069 chip feels hot.
SignGuy81
Just want to doublecheck this is the original lynx correct, not the lynx 2?

Bstar
I've started replacing the capacitors. It's still not starting, but I've only gotten through about a third of them so far.
