Luigi301
I use Grafx2 for pixel art. I want to convert a 16-luma 80x40 grayscale .bmp into a format (either assembly or raw binary) I can include in my assembly program. What utility would serve me best? zzip
Can you convert to gif and then convert from gif on the Atari? I would reduce the number of colors first to what the Atari can handle first to prevent unwanted dithering.
emkay
Use any graphics tool that allows to use an Atari Palette file. Then import it, set it to grey and reduce the image to 80x40. If you're able to convert the picture then via assembler, BMP should be the easiest format. Edited October 24, 2017 by emkay

+CharlieChaplin
GIF87a: There is "Apacview" and "Jview" both by Jeff Potter which will convert GIF 87a into an A8 format. With Jview press M (mode) until you reach Gr9/mode 9 bw for Graphics 9 with 16 grayscales. When viewing the pict., you may press Select or Option to get some markers on the screen, use the Joystick (or H for height and W for width) to zoom the picture and make it appear "bigger" on the screen (since Gr. 9 has a standard resolution of 80x192 pixels)... http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=JView&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#JView http://ftp.pigwa.net/stuff/collections/holmes%20cd/Holmes%201/ATR%20Programs/Applications%20A-Z/ApacView%202.2%20(Digitised%20Faces).atr JPEG: There is A8JDPEG and JPEGview to convert (or view) JPEG pictures into various monochrome / grayscale formats (2 greys/Gr.8, 4 greys/Gr.15, 16 greys/Gr.9 and 30 greys/HIP). http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=JpegView&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#JpegView http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=A8JDPEG&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#A8JDPEG BMP: Various bitmap-converters for the A8 convert only to 2 greys / Gr.8 (320x192 pixel), think there is one converter that also supports Gr. 9 (16 greys, 80x192 pixel), but I do not remember its name right now... http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=Bitmap%20File%20Converter&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#Bitmap%20File%20Converter http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=BMP%20Convert&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#BMP%20Convert http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=BMP%20View&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#BMP%20View http://www.atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=utils&sub=2.%20Grafika&tg=BMP%20Viewer&PHPSESSID=156ej0t30mr44ng6t7lsuutai5#BMP%20Viewer Of course there are also several solutions on the PC, like Graph2Font and others. http://g2f.atari8.info/
