Team Pixelboy News Bulletin - October 31st 2017

Good eeeeeevening, ColecoVisionakers!

Welcome to a special Halloween edition of the Team Pixelboy News Bulletin! Actually, I've never really been fond of Halloween, so you won't find any spooky stuff here, aside from the very first piece of news which follows... :|

ABOUT THE BUDGET GAMES

I must regretfully announce that the budget release of Yars' Revenge has been cancelled. I waited as long as I could for the programmer to deliver the release candidate of the software, but with the printer company being almost ready to print the boxes of the game, I felt I had to make a decision. So I decided to cut my losses and pull the plug on the whole thing, while I still could. It's not all bad news, however: Yars' Revenge will probably be released by CollectorVision some time next year, so I'm sure you'll all be able to play the game eventually. But I'm no longer involved with that game.

Speaking of CollectorVision, I was able to work out a deal with them: They will allow me to publish the SG-1000 port of Pacar (a game they had dibs on up until now) and this game will replace Yars' Revenge in the budget game series! I haven't found the time to apply this change to teampixelboy.com yet, but I'll get around to it soon.

Of course, I'm not going to force the people who pre-ordered Yars' Revenge to accept Pacar as a replacement title. What I will do is give every concerned customer a choice: They can accept Pacar as a replacement title, or they can simply get their money back. I will contact each of them by e-mail within the next few days to submit this offer, and then abide by their wishes.

In other budget game news, I should have received the boxes of Kaboom! by now, but the printer company had problems with their printing machine and it took forever to get that fixed, so now they're way behind on printing the budget boxes. I'm still waiting for the boxes of Kaboom!, Remember The Flag... and Pacar. I'm hoping to receive all those remaining boxes before the end of the year.

IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS... KINDA...

Now I really have to come clean: My time tables for getting all the newest Team Pixelboy releases ready before the end of this year were completely unrealistic. I was able to complete the work on the manual of Ghostbusters this past month, and I finished the texts for the manual of Children of the Night yesterday morning. But I still have to beta-test Space Shuttle and prepare all the manuals for that game, and I have several other little things to take care of (like preparing the box, label and manual templates for Pacar) and then I have to glue boxes, assemble carts, etc.. With only two months to go, there's no way I can ship that many games before the end of this year.

I thought about this, and given that a lot of people pre-paid for many of these games all the way back in 2015, I feel I have a responsability towards those people in particular. So I'm going to prepare roughly 35 to 40 copies of each game before Christmas, and ship them to the majority of those people who have been waiting a long time. If you're not on the hot list, don't worry, I will continue to work on preparing all the remaining copies in January 2018, and I'll ship them as quickly as possible. So it'll be just an extra month to wait. The idea is to ship at least some copies of these games ASAP, in order to make their 2017 release official.

GOOD DEAL GAMES IS YOUR GO-TO PLACE FOR SGM TITLES!

Just last week, I shipped a small bunch of copies of these Team Pixelboy SGM titles to Good Deal Games: Dragon's Lair, Zaxxon Super Game, King's Valley, Thexder, Buck Rogers Super Game, Mecha-8 and Subroc Super Game. They are all brand new copies, and these will be the last copies ever produced of these games. Yep, that's right, these games are now officially discontinued, as far as Team Pixelboy is concerned. So if you've got a SGM pre-ordered, and you intend to get any of those SGM games, I suggest you contact Good Deal Games to secure your copy.

Along with the SGM games listed above, I also shipped a few copies of the budget games Deep Dungeon Adventure and Frostbite to Good Deal Games.

And finally, this coming week-end, I will ship a few copies of these games to Good Deal Games: The Goonies, TwinBee, Spelunker, The Stone of Wisdom, Knightmare, Super Pac-Man, Caos Begins, Majikazo, Knight Lore, Mappy, Rally-X, Mecha-9 and Operation Wolf. By the way, unlike the other group of SGM games above, these games will NOT be officially discontinued, in case you're wondering.

PROGRESS ON THE 2018 LINEUP

I recently received the release candidate ROM of Booming Boy from our friend Armando. I asked him to prepare a short gameplay video for YouTube, and he graciously complied, so if you head on over to teampixelboy.com, you can see the footage of the ColecoVision version under the "media" tab. I'll be needing a beta-tester to test this game fully, so send me a PM if you're interested.

Great progress has also been made on Multiverse. From what the programmer (Antoni Burguera) told me, all that's missing is the music and sound effects, everything else is done. I expect Multiverse will be finished and ready before the end of this year.

As a footnote to this piece of news, I should mention that Booming Boy will require the SGM, while Multiverse will not require the SGM. :)

MORE GAMES COMING IN 2018... FROM ATARIAGE?

I am happy to announce that I'm very close to reaching a co-publishing agreement with the AtariAge Store, for the release of these eight SG-1000 ports, curtesy of Mystery Man:

GP World:

Zoom 909:

Team Pixelboy's involvement in this project will be limited to managing beta-testers, and preparing box templates. Everything else, from cartridge and manual manufacturing to order processing and shipping, will be handled by our friend Albert via the AtariAge Store. That's why you won't find any of these eight games listed on teampixelboy.com.

I was planning to announce these new titles on January 1st 2018, but hey, guess what: All these games are ready for beta-testing right now! So I may as well get the ball rolling on recruiting beta-testers right away. Send me a PM if you want to get in on the action, but be warned: If you choose to accept it, your job will not only be to test the games for several hours on real hardware, but you will also be mandated to collect information (while you're playing the game) which will be used to prepare the manuals. Send me a PM if you believe you have enough free time to invest in this. Beta-testers will get a free CIB copy of each game they test, of course.

HELP ALSO NEEDED WITH THE TRADING CARD PROJECT

I really wanted to add a section for my trading card project to teampixelboy.com, but I haven't had any free time to work on that lately. Still, I'm mentioning the trading card project today because I need help with a specific aspect of it: In a nutshell, I need to know, for each homebrew ColecoVision game, if the game makes distinct use of the left and right trigger buttons, or if both buttons perform the exact same function within the game.

I have already collected this information for all the legacy commercial games, and now I need to collect this info for all the homebrew games (except for Team Pixelboy titles, obviously). Problem is, I sold all my CV homebrews on eBay many months ago, so I can't do this job myself. If you have a large collection of homebrew ColecoVision games and would like to help me with this, send me a PM. :)

I am also looking for an artist who could design a homebrew box for the classic homebrew ColecoVision game Kevtris. This is mainly because I would like to create a trading card for Kevtris, and strangely enough, no one has made a homebrew box for this game yet. So again, PM me if you're interested.

This concludes this Team Pixelboy News Bulletin. We now return you to your regular forum activities. :)

That's wonderful news! Let's hope that ends up being a long-term relationship! Would love to see some of Team Pixelboy's back catalog in the AtariAge store so that newer CV fans can have access to copies of your games!

Funny you should mention that, because I'm currently working things out with Albert to do just that. I'm just not quite ready to make an announcement about this yet.

By the way, some of you may have noticed that the video for Booming Boy is not actually up on teampixelboy.com yet. I didn't have time to update the HTML for the Booming Boy page, I will get around to that shortly. :P

Luc did I miss something or is Wizard of Wor no longer on your list?

You missed something. :P The new games I'm working on releasing this year are:

- Ghostbusters

- Space Shuttle - A Journey Into Space

- Secret of the Moai

- C-So!

- King & Balloon

- Children of the Night

- Wizard of Wor

- Zombie Incident

- Flicky

As I said, I will only be able to manufacture a limited amount of copies of the above games before Christmas, the rest will be assembled and shipped in January.

I just got out of the shower after coming home from the gym, and it's already 11 PM as I write this, and I'm already receiving PMs and e-mails which I don't have time to reply to tonight. Please be patient, I will reply to everyone as soon as possible.

Thanks y'all! :D

QUICK UPDATE: The new video of Booming Boy is up on teampixelboy.com. There's no music at first because it's showing the attract mode, but you'll hear the background music during the actual gameplay, later into the video.

I wanted to get that done before going to bed.

And to all, a good night! :)

Fantastic news! As I'm sure I've told you before I feel your back catalog is very strong and full of great games. When I see new ColecoVision fans re-discovering the system almost every day now, I feel bad that these newcomers have missed out on some great homebrews of recent years and always hope there is a way that more copies would be made so they can continue to enjoy the system they have reunited with. So the idea that your back catalog may breathe some new life is great to hear!

Does Gp world has been modified to support the Steering wheel?

Nope, sorry.

FYI , some of these SG 1000 games you listed has been already ported on Colecovision. At least N Sub and Flipper . I have played them few year ago on colecovision at a convention in France.

Well, that's news to me, and probably everyone else here.

I certainly haven't played them, nor do I know where they are available to play so I most certainly look forward to Pixelboy's releases of these games.

May I ask why not?

Converting a game that works with the steering wheel (or Roller Controller) into a game that works with the stock Coleco controller is relatively easy, as it's been done with Turbo, Slither, etc. But doing the reverse conversion is more difficult, because the original SG-1000 game was not made for the steering wheel originally, and stuffing extra code to process interrupt signals from the wheel can be difficult if the 32K ROM is already full.

I suppose I could ask Mystery Man if he could at least examine the possibility of adding steering wheel support in GP World, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much if I were you.

for me it is a must have for a driving game on Colecovision. It worth to spend time of that . And it would be probably the first SG1000 port i could see for me a real interrest in buying it!

And in addition IMHO it would transform an OK Game on SG1000 into a really good game. I pretty sure the game will take another dimension with the steering wheel.

I don't think they have been put somewhere freely accessible on the web. It was a just a proof a concept to demonstrate how it was easy to convert a SG1000 game to Colecovision due to their similar hardware at that convention. I think the guys even did the convertion of these 2 games "in live" , but i did not see that part , i was late :(

Really looking forward to Children of the Night. It has an authentic look of some other Japanese MSX games and is obviously epic in extent of gameplay. Can't wait for Zombie Incident as well. I especially appreciate the extra effort from everyone involved in bringing us new original games.

Thank you for the very informative update and great job managing so many projects and seeing them through with such attention to detail. I'm so impressed with the professional quality of your games not that they're not professional in any way of course.

I sent a message to GoodDealGames for one copy of Frostbite while luckily still in stock. And I'm so happy to hear that both Yars' Revenge and Pacar will still be made available through CollectorVision for those who missed the Budget Game pre-order(s).

And I'm very excited for the newly announced SG-1000 games through AtariAge which all look awesome. With many MSX games it's nice to have a few more SG-1000 titles out there. I personally never experienced the MSX or SG-1000 so it's great to be able to play their games on my ColecoVision.

If you are getting someone to make a box for Kevtris is it possible for us Kevtris cart owners to purchase that box when it is done?

Yeah, I'd like to print 100 boxes and try to track down all the owners of the cartridges. :)

I haven't found anyone to help me with that yet. What's Crapahute doing these days? ;)

Actually, I'm the one who will be publishing Pacar, as a replacement title for Yars' Revenge. :)

Whoops; I misread that part. Just Yars’Revenge then through CollectorVision. Well if anyone does prefer the refund I’ll happily buy a copy of Pacar if any become available.

Yeah, I'd like to print 100 boxes and try to track down all the owners of the cartridges. :)

I have Kevtris #98/100. I’d be interested in a box for it if they become available down the road. And I see Kevtris #14/100 currently listed on eBay. It seems like it’s been opened though from the looks of the label.

EXCELLENT service from both Team Pixelboy and Good Deal Games! I ordered Zaxxon and Buck Rogers, literally, two days ago, and I got them in the mail today! Excellent packaging, so they arrived pristine (I know all of us collectors constantly worry about that).
Very happy with the boxes and paperwork. I will have to wait until my SGM arrives, but I am in awe just looking at the products. VERY happy about their partnership!
